Looking back at Brady/Bledsoe decision

Nah, three Super Bowl championships pretty much seals the deal as far as that goes.

ya, I know. My point being that those 3 SBs came because of his decision to play Brady over Bledsoe.

Interesting links to Borges and Cafardo in there too. BB has taken flack from these guys from day 1. Its no wonder he doesn't like the media.

Gawd, I'd forgotten what an utter tool Cafardo was. A complete Bledsoe rump swab to the end. It was blatently obvious he was an MLB meathead assigned the onerous task of Patriots beat writer. He is not missed.

Let's get serious...all the credit goes to Mo Lewis...Bill had no choice in the matter...

There were serious rumors in Foxboro that Bill was going to bench Drew mid-season if the ship didn't right itself.

I was actually neutral about the decision. I could see both sides. But I think I came around as soon as they won the "Snow Kick" game vs Oakland. After the season, I was more than glad they traded Bledsoe - even though he statistically did well in Buffalo. That trade brought in Warren, I think, and he's been much more useful since 03 than Drew has been.

No it doesn't. Bledsoe was ready to return by the time the playoffs came around, yet BB decided to stick with Brady. I remember the uproar over that in the papers.

One of the favorite expressions I learned in B-school about management in any field (and it certainly applies to sports) is "Management means having to make irrevocable decisions based on inadequate information."

When Belichick decided not to return "his job" to Bledsoe, he only had his gut and the experience of a relative handful of games on which to rely. It was an irrevocable decision, as his relationship with Drew would never be the same again and Bledsoe would have to be gone from the Patriots the next year, no matter how things turned out with Brady.

The ability to make decisions like that consistently correctly (not "always," but "consistently") is what separates the "Great" from the "Near Great," the "Good," the "Just OK" and the "Wannabes" (though I do agree with the posters who commented that BB will go to Canton on the strength of his three rings with the Pats and two with the Giants).
