Obviously this assumes that the Pats win against the Jaguars, but if they do, they will clinch their division. Will they then play for the #3 seed and an 11-5 record, or will they rest their starters and probably settle for a #4 seed?

as this guys says

NFL Playoff Projections, Scenarios for Week 16 - Dom Bonvissuto - SI.com

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (9-5)

If The Playoffs Started Today: In; No. 3 seed (wins tiebreaker with Cincinnati based on strength of victory)

Remaining Schedule (Projected Results): vs. Jacksonville (W); at Houston (W)

Final Projected Record; Playoff Seeding: 11-5; No. 3

Extra Point: The Patriots are a power broker in the race for the No. 5 and 6 seeds because they play two of the 7-7 teams. Ironically, by beating both the Jags and Texans, the Patriots will be helping clear a path for the division rival Jets and/or Dolphins to make the postseason.

i think he plays a half at least .but right now even the jags looks like a tough game the way we have played last 2 weeks so lets see..

It's more complicated than that. If they win Sunday and the Chargers lose, then in week 17 I believe they actually would have a chance to get the #2 seed if they win again and SD loses again. So that is most certainly worth playing for, so I think it depends

You forgot "No, Brady plays a half". That'd be my vote.

If we win, and he's still in rough shape (as in NEEDS a week of rest) sit him. Record doesn't mean much if he's too banged up to go. Also, going into playoff's with a more experienced back up can't be a bad thing.

Brady sits, Moss sits, other go out as the game progresses.

My wish - it works out this week that we win the division and Tenessee needs a Houston loss to get it and we tank it. I hate Jeff Fisher partly for what happened in '06 but also for how Dumgy (spelling intentional) intentionally lost to Tennessee the next year getting them in. I want Fisher on the other side of that.

You're right - but SD isn't losing to Washington Week 17 and very likely won't be losing to Tennessee this week.

Tanking that game would be classless and also possibly keep the Jets/Fish outta the playoffs.

Hey..... that doesn't sound so bad... :D

The only team I want out is Tennessee (and Pittsburgh as they scare me most among the wildcards). The Fishers got in before due to a tank job, it's time to show them what it's like. Fish or Jest ? I would love to face either of them in Round 1.

I am hoping that what is wrong with Brady is mostly due to injury.

Brady plays a series or two and then sits. He is clearly hurting and needs to be as close to 100% in the playoffs for the Pats to have any chance.

Patriots win + Chargers loss = Brady plays

Patriots loss + Dolphins win = Brady plays

Patriots win + Chargers win = Brady sits

Patriots loss + Dolphins loss = Brady sits

Patriots tie = Brady sits

That's my guess on the basics.

I'd say rest Brady, Moss, etc. in that week 17 game - this team is banged up. Of course, if San Diego loses this week, things get a little more interesting with the #2 seed in play. I think you'd have to play for the bye week then. In some ways, I'm hoping San Diego wins just to take that out of the equation, b/c I think the guaranteed week of rest for Brady & Moss is worth it, versus the chance at having a bye week.

Agreed 100%

There are scenarios where if the Patriots lose to Houston the Pats would be the 4 seed and would host the Texans as the 5 seed the following week. Given an order of teams I would want us to play in the first round the Texans wouldn't be my first choice. They can definitely cause our defense issues.

The good thing is that Tenn and Pitt are the least likely teams to make the playoffs of all the wildcards.

I don't see the Chargers losing at this point, unfortunately. So, if we win, I think Brady and the other nicked-up players (such as Wilfork, Warren, Moss, etc.) sit the last game against the Texans.

Some people are saying the chargers losing will FORCE us to start Brady.

Does anyone not believe we can try to win with Brian Hoyer and a good runninggame?

Eh, the Texans have a good defense. I can't see Hoyer beating them (since their D will ultimately force him to beat them by stopping the running game).

Logical and should be exactly the way it goes down.
