Unusual time to write an article summarizing the entire decade of good and bad moments in this decade for the Pats but still a pretty good read.

The Birth of a Dynasty

Not really all that unusual with the decade coming to a close in a week. I do agree it is a good read though.

Fascinating read, it left me feeling a bit empty there at the end.

It says something like there as so much more that could have been, but alas, they were still great.

I don't know. I really think so much of "what could have been" has been getting to this fanbase and it's the reason we seem like we're starving. I wouldn't say we have it tough, but the last the 4 year we've seen a cruel fate for our Pats. AFC title game, SB, Brady going down, this team underachieving, etc. There's a reason the frustration level with the Patriots is rising, and why even one more SB win would be huge.

This year and last aren't really an issue--they weren't winning a SB last year with Brady either, and this year ain't over yet. But they were arguably 2 plays away from the 5 SBs and 19-0. I know they still had to beat the Bears in the Super Bowl in 2006, but....c'mon, they would have.

Still, nice to have a piece like this--I like the fact that it's not a "who's the team of the decade" article, but a matter-of-fact, let's look back at the team of the decade. Man, I'm a long-time fan, sometimes I still can't believe it.

Why do you say they weren't winning a SB last year without Brady?....I think Brady would have given them at least another victory and the division and since the Steelers have yet to beat us in the playoffs makes me wonder how you came to this conclusion...not to mention the fact that we had all the veteran players last year on the roster who got us there in 03-2004,Cassel had a great year but no way does a healthy Brady coming off a 50 TD season lose all those 5.

He had to feed his family. (not the ecstasy but the money he would have sold it for).

The Steelers have beaten the Pats in the playoffs...not recently but they have done it.

pre-Brady days yeah

In fact IIRC it was Mike Vrabel when he was a Steeler who INT Bledsoe to clinch that playoff victory in 1999 I think

Shame on you Tom Curran...for forgetting the decade of three time Super Bowl Champion, New England Patriot trench warrior, Stephen Neal. :nono:

Good article otherwise, one could wish some of those kids trying to find their way in the locker room would pick up on the underlying theme - New England Patriots against the world.

One time trench warrior, Box. He didn't start until 2004 and spent some time bouncing around from us to Philly to us to PUP to IR to... He may have 3 rings but he only played for one of them.

All fair points, but to me there's no way last year's defense was winning a title. Of course anything can happen, and I was rooting for them, and would have probably been more hopeful with Brady. It's just that after the fact, when they didn't win, it's harder to feel real regret about it, as opposed to 2006 and 2007.

Depends on things play out, I guess.....I mean, I'm pulling for them this year, but don't realistically expect a Super Bowl. If they fall short, there will be far more pain if they fall one play short (in the AFC title game, Super Bowl, or whatever) than if they lose by a couple touchdowns in the second round.
