I hate Dierdorf but he might have something when he says this might be the best coaching job in Belichick's tenure as a head coach in the NFL.

He said this is a team with less talent than BB ever had yet keeps this team in contention.

I would say the 2006 team was Bill's best coaching job...after all the team almost got to the SB with Reche Caldwell as the #1 WR and practically had guys off the streets take over an injury depleted secondary so I would put 2006 at the top with 2005 and this year in a close tie for second and 2001 after that.

Re: Dierdorf "This is Belichick's best year ever as a Head Coach"

Dierdorf should lay off the crack. Belichick has made plenty of mistakes, on and off the field this season. If we make a lot of noise in the playoffs, this would obviously change. But, as of right now, this is (by far) NOT Belichick's best coaching job ever.

Re: Dierdorf "This is Belichick's best year ever as a Head Coach"

For me, Belichick's two best coaching jobs were the first Super Bowl win in 2001 and last year after losing Brady, even though we missed the playoffs.

Re: Dierdorf "This is Belichick's best year ever as a Head Coach"

He did not say that. He said this MAY be ONE OF the best jobs BB has done.
Why exaggerate it?

4TH and 2 and sending guys home for being 5 minutes late brings that to the forefront.

He said it may well be the best coaching job BB ever did ever with the lack of talent on this team.

Thats exactly what he said if you listened to that buffoon during the telecast.......

Wow, according to some pundits here, the game has passed him by.

Anyway, I think his best coaching job was 2001.

Deirdorf is on some of that good stuff. He nearly creamed himself after a 3 yard pass to Kevin Faulk.

2001 by far

Except it doesn't because the 4th and 2 was 100% the correct call and I'm sure he'd do the same thing every single time. Not to mention it worked, except for a bobble and bad spot!

If you really believe Peyton was going to struggle to go from the IND 30 to the NE 30 in a minute, then you weren't paying attention to the game.

I'd say that's probably the second best, IMO. I think his best was between 2006 and 2008, though we lost in the AFCCG one year and didn't even make the playoffs the other.

4th and 2 was the right call, it just didn't work out.

Yes because we've seen the 4th down calls work time and time again this season. But, APPARENTLY, the statistics and odds are still in favor of going for it on 4th down. I don't see how because I believe we've only converted two out of the five or six attempts this season.

Hey, this might be a nice topic for a poll, if it hasn't been done....

2001 was a great job but I look at players like Law,Milloy,McGinest and Bruschi who became instant superstars that year in a defense that held together.

I go by talent on the roster and in 2001 there certainly was some young talent with veterans mixed in,not as much this year which is a team trying to fill in the gaps left by seasoned veterans who retired, got cut or traded away.

This year has certainly been quite a challenge to get a winning record and at 9-5 so far so good.

But on the flip side, Bledsoe went down and he dealt with a QB controversy, and Brady wasn't TFB yet. They had no running game I can recall (Antowain Smith?) and were predicted to finish last in the AFC east.

Just his quote at the end of the SB "Can you believe we won the SB with this team?".....that's what sealed the deal for me. Even he couldn't believe it.

I also have a soft spot of 2005...for the Rams game alone. That year, even my dad was saying "They have no receivers....they're not that good." And then they pulled that Rams game out of the hat and the rest is history. Also, Troy Brown on defense. 'Nuff said.

Re: Dierdorf "This is Belichick's best year ever as a Head Coach"

I agree it's been a good coaching job but not because of lack of talent. Put those 2 teams side by side and there have been a lot of upgrades since then.

I agree, and I might even give the nod to last year. It was the one that impressed me the most, but there's a lot of emotion involved too.
