At the same point in the season, I think last years team was stronger or at least played with more emotion. The offensive play calling being a lot better last year.

Re: IMO, 2008 team beats 2009 team.

i think the 2009 team would beat the 2008 team... just because

Re: IMO, 2008 team beats 2009 team.

The 2008 team grew around Cassel's development once they realised he could be a big time quarterback. This team has regressed around Brady's stagnation through injury.

Couple the very different tools on both offense and defense and the 2008 team would win.

Re: IMO, 2008 team beats 2009 team.

Well I think the 2007 team would beat every team ever not nammed the 2007 Giants...

I think they'd beat the Giants if they played again.

Actually I've tricked myself into believing we DID beat the 07 Giants.

Got me a bunch of 19-0 T-shirts and hats, yes I do.

2009 easily.

Brady would have a field day against Hobbs and O'Neal.

The 2008 team would beat have beaten any team last year not from the city of Pittsburgh.

maybe but seymour and vrabel would eat up this O line and brady would not have time to pass the ball

Agreed. IIRC, we were going to go up 7 at the half last yr vs. PGH, but Moss dropped 3 consectutive TD passes in a row. Gostkowski then missed a chip shot FG to go up 3 at the half--that's when everything started to cave in.

For a while, I thought we could even beat PGH.

The 3rd TD pass in a row is debatable because it hit a defender's hand first, but Moss still had it in his hands. Anyone would agree at the least that he dropped 2 in a row, if not 3.

Cassel made some great throws today, even if it was against the terrible Browns defense.

His stats don't tell the story. He had 7-10 passes dropped.

You mean the O line that hasn't given up a sack in 3 games?

Re: IMO, 2008 team beats 2009 team.

Agree. The offense was varied and disciplined. Cassel eas careful with the ball and the play calling was imaginative.

Kind of like The first few years with young Tom Brady. Cassel had trouble hitting the long ball to Moss., but still threw great in the stretch.

345 yds against Arizona, 7 different receivers.

Without "stretching" the field. Field has width as well as length...

they did once

half right

Re: IMO, 2008 team beats 2009 team.

I expect that the 2008 team would win convincingly.

Considering the Saints are the only team to beat us "convincingly", I find it pretty hard to envision the 2008 Patriots team achieving that.

Well, we disagree then.

Pressures and quarterback hits don't account for anything, I guess.

Re: IMO, 2008 team beats 2009 team.

Talk about useless speculation! But I'd take Tommy over Matt in a showdown game any day of the week. I bet he'd love to throw into what passed for our secondary last year.

Re: IMO, 2008 team beats 2009 team.

There is something to be said for having a QB that can roll out and boot leg. Adds a new dimension in the offense...a dimension the Pats won't see with Brady.

And your point is that you would rather have Cassel over Brady?
