If you asking about 2010, the answer is definitely RT. I would much rather have Light at LT and Vollmer at RT than Vollmer at LT and Kaczur or a rookie at RT.

I certainly understand that folks think it is easy to just draft a RT who will be a bookend for years. If the draft were so easy, Vollmer would have been a top 10 pick.
As MgT notes, the correct answer for 2009 is Light at RT and Vollmer at LT. But SeaBass is our future starting LT and a likely upgrade over Light (even though Light is solid), so beyond 2009 I really wouldn't like to keep Vollmer parked at RT.
There are a couple of solutions I can see:
1. Draft a true RT to play opposite SeaBass. I like Joseph Barksdale of LSU.
2. Draft a guy who can potentially play RG and RT. That gives some flexibility, depending on what happens with Matt Light. If we keep Light at LT and Vollmer at RT for 2010 then the rookie could replace Stephen Neal at RG, and eventually move outside to RT. Alternatively, the rookie could play at RT with Neal at RG, and move inside if necessary due to injury. The 3 guys who I like for this option or Mike Iupati, Gabe Carimi, and Vladimir Ducasse.
One or more of those 4 guys should be available in the 2nd round when we pick. I'd love to see us pick up at least one, and possibly 2 OLs in this draft. Next to the pass rush, this is the most important area of the team to address.
I think it's been proven by history that it is easier to draft for the right tackle position than it is to find a competant left tackle...why this is such a chore to get across (drafting a tackle) is beyond me...perhaps you think Kaczur is the answer...I don't
It really depends on what the Patriots think Light has left. If the Patriots think Light's got another 3 years or so, keep Vollmer on the right and give Light an extension.

that would be a very optimistic view...if the Pats traded a Seymour with something left in his tank why would they hang onto and sign a longtoothed Light for three years??...anyway,I think there is a definite need to upgrade the talent on the O line if keeping bRady intact is an issue going forward

Vollmer it seems is a better pass blocker than he is a run blocker. A year a RT learning to be a better run blocker will be good for him and Light is way better off staying at LT at this stage of his career ... he still is a very valuable player.
Also ... I think our chances of finding another great bargain as a future RT would be better than finding another Vollmer - we have other needs more pressing right now. Belichick will be able to take the best guard in the draft this year ... and he may just do that for the value.
