Would they hire Weis now if it was an emergency?

Because it is. O'Brien isn't the offensive coordinator, Belichick and Brady are, assisted by Moss and Welker.

TB and BB have been since Weis left. Mcdaniels is a smart play designer, but since Moss was acquired, TB and BB have conpletely sold out to the "star" mentality, as opposed to a balanced offense.

Weis was Belichick's peer, not a yes man. Belichick has been the defacto OC to an extent since and (sacrilege) he's not good at it. He's a defensive guy.

As amazing as our high flying offense was, it was defensed by a team with a good pass rush because it was one dimensional and predictable. It doesn't matter how clever your formations are if the defense knows you're going to pass and who you're going to pass it to.

TB and BB are human, they have egos and they think as long as their long and short "star" receivers get the ball, they'll win.

That's it.

No.

Weiss will not make the slightest difference.

Without looking at tape, my guess is that the problem is with Brady's lack of trust in a true 3rd receiver, and teams are keying on this by ganging up on Welker and Moss in the 2nd half.

Name the third receiver on the 2001 Patriots.

'04 was the only year that Weis was here that they averaged more points/game (0.5 more) than they are this year.

Brady missed all of last year, Brady is battling various injuries including a RIB injury, the o-line has been hurt and struggling mightily at times, we are extremely thin at receiving threats after Moss/Welker.

Exactly how has Belichick been the OC since Weis left when during most of the McDaniels' years, he had his back to the field when the offense was on the field working with the defense making adjustments.

I know people hate giving credit to McDaniels for being a very good coordinator, but we are seeing this year how good he truly was.

As for O'Brien, his play calling is not great, but he is actually getting better. I don't know if he will ever be a good play caller, but he is improving. It isn't all him. The execution has been a problem this year from Brady down.

I have always said that people only remember Weis for 2004. They forget all the biatching about the guy in the 2002 and 2003 season.

Brady being hurt probably has a lot to do with some of his throws.

Exactly. This could be due to the fact that we don't have a true 3rd receiver who can get off single coverage. If anybody thought that Aiken was that guy, this game should be the one that changes that thought. Aiken, for all the times he was thrown to today, never once had his man truly beat. Contrast that with Moss who was routinely beating double coverage but had to put up with terrible throws by Brady.

O'Brien is not a good OC though. I would have thought that he would learn that Brady's strength is not throwing on the run. However, big second down late in the game... in the shadow of our own goalposts... and O'Brien calls a designed rollout. I can't tell you the amount of times I've seen that play fail this season. This offense got bailed out today soley by the fact that Buffalo's offense sucks and the fact that they were playing two guys at quarterback - neither of them starters.

Do you remember the 2001 season. It was an offense that basically was only responsible for not making mistakes and letting the defense win games. That offense was the 19th ranked offense (sixth in points scored).

Not this year but next year? I would hope so, barring a superbowl victor or even an AFCCG win, we need a change next year even if it isnt Charlie.

This is absolutely correct. The longer Weis is gone, the better he was.

It's too late now IMO. But I do hope they pursue him for next season, he was a great OC for us and despite the talent you never saw these many 3 and outs ... hard to see us having these struggles with him.

Actually, go back and look at the 2003 season, the Pats had tons of 3 and outs. In fact, converting 3rd downs was a huge problem that year. That is why the Pats won a lot of games that year 9-3 or 12-0. If the Pats did not have the best defense in Patriots' history that year, they wouldn't have gone 14-2 and won the Super Bowl.

This thread is a perfect example of people talking out of their ass without really having any facts. Like any of us know the exact arrangement they use. Maybe O'Brien always calls the perfect play and Brady changes it at the line. Or maybe O'Brien is a bum. But any of us who claim to know are full of it.

I am at a loss as to why some members on this board refuse to admit the endless predictability of this offense
Week after week we as fans can look at the down and distance, view our offensive set, and know exactly where the ball is going

Please Santa
All I want is Charley Weis for Christmas

If you would take the 01 offense over the 09 offense you are nuts

2001 we won a Super Bowl, 2007 we didn't.

Sure we had more talent in 2007, we have more now.

Would i rather have less talent utilized to the max, than more talent poorly used?

Well, I'd rather win than lose. How is this offense in the second half? Against good teams?

How often are receivers wide open, or even open at all?

Yeah, I'm nuts.

It's either going to be a draw play to Kevin Faulk, a screen to Wes Welker, or a 7 yard pass to Welker over the middle. I don't think whomever is calling the plays (which is most likely O'Brien) is doing a good job at all. However, Brady looked anything but good today. He underthrew a couple of sure touchdowns to Moss, who had just beaten double coverage.

Get over it already--Weis is not coming back, sorry. TBS, it's obvious that the O'Brien as de facto OC plan isn't exactly working out for them. Will he be our official OC next season, as per BB's pattern? I hope not.
