Dungy: Colts will go for 16-0, but not play starters all game - Dan Patrick.com

NBC's Tony Dungy joined the show to talk about the 14-0 Indianapolis Colts.

"I think Jim Caldwell is going to try to win the games, but i don't think he's going to play everyone all the way through," Dungy said.

Dungy said that he wouldn't have taken the same strategy.

"I would have rested the guys this week," Dungy said. "Let 'em have the long 10-day period. And then play everyboyd in the Jets game [in Week 16]."

Dungy said the Colts did a great job of protecting Peyton Manning last night against the Jags. But still, people in that organization remember players getting hurt in meaningless games in the past. For example, Dungy said GM Bill Polian lost Cornelius Bennett in a meaningless game in Buffalo and it hurt them in the Bills in the playoffs that year.

"It is the first round of the playoffs that is more important than how you finish the regular season," Dungy said.

Dungy did make one thing clear, it's not up to Peyton and the other players. They always want to play. "That decision is going to be made by Jim Irsay, Bill Polian and Jim Caldwell," Dungy said.

Dungy said Indianapolis faces only one real threat in the AFC. "I don't think anyone other than San Diego can beat the Colts," Dungy said.

Good. I hope that the Saints go 16 and 0 too. Then if our Pats happen to win all 16 of their games again, they can do it in peace and not have to listen to all the BS. Where are the 72 Dolphins by the way?

LOL BS

it was BS starting last week

the colts ARE going for 16-0, otherwise you dont play the jags w/ ur starters

I must have missed the choke job the Patriots did against the Colts, as they looked pretty beatable to me for 55 minutes.

Why do Colts fans care that Saints lost? If the Colts go undefeated, the Saints would not be undefeated anyway. So, not sure why Colts fans are so happy that they are only undefeated team now. They would be the only one anyway if the win SB.

I really thought that Indy had a better chance of losing than NO this week... it'll be interesting to see what goes down going forward. To be honest, I think that the Chargers can beat Indy in Indy.

Also in the news : what makes you so certain Mike G wasn't as guilty as Canseco ? ...or any athlete of modern times in any sport ?

Manning doesn't run the team? I guess it's been a while since he's been on the sideline.

The Colts going 19-0 and winning it all would be enough for me to completely turn away from anything & everything that has to do with the NFL until next August.

Fixed it for you!

There are what they are right now. I do not believe that they are good enough to go to the SB. Their luck will run out before that.

I have a feeling they will lose to the Jets next week - no, not saying it will happen, but the Jets, like Dallas last night, are a very desperate team.

If not, I think TO will want to build his stock going into free agency next year and have a monster game for the Bills to knock the Colts off the undefeated chart.

Yeah that really doesn't make any sense Tony

jets with sanchez have no chance . their defense may play will but sanchez will turn itover 4-5 times.

I think the Jets have every chance, if they get after Manning early and often he might just be taken out of the game and that would give them a serious chance at winning.

They get to play their only outdoor game in cold weather in Buffalo:eek: That is one more reason I think that their record is unimpressive.

well..we will see...i dont trust sanchez to make enough plays to win ...

No need to worry Ryan. The Colts are the Atlanta Braves of the NFL.
They're a fantastic team every year...in the regular season.
Come the playoffs not so much. ;)
This year won't be any different.

Won't happen

a good team in the playoffs will put them in their place
