"Draft Redux" - Don Banks

For armchair coaches, there is perhaps nothing easier to do than go back and look for 'better' players that were taken later on any given draft.

Besides the benefit of 20-20 hindsight and the fact it is way too early to declare any player a stud or a bust after 13 games, the problem with declaring a draft to be 'bad' is that you're looking at in in a vacuum; there's no reference point to compare it to. In other words, you have to compare the results to 32 other teams as well, and have some specific definitions of who is a bust and who is not.

Picking out one or two 'good' players on other teams and one or two 'bad' players on another team is not proof of anything regarding good or bad drafts. It's like comparing two Peyton Manning interceptions to two Alex Smith touchdowns and coming to the conclusion that Smith is a better quarterback than Manning.

It must be the dumbest thing somebody can do is a 20/20 vision in hindsight draft. Like what exactly is the point of it?

If this and that happened look what would have happened. Go make a scifi movie ffs.

We have enough to concern ourselves with as Pats fans without discussing dumb articles like that.

And while I'm ranting, what the **** is this geeky 'you spelled it wrong' crap. Get a ******* life, there is enough bull**** in that post without pointing out spelling errors. We all know the guy is as bright as a broken lightbulb. Who gives a continental about his spelling.

People pointing our spelling errors just annoy the **** out of me anyways.

Re: "Draft Redux"-Don Banks

Bill has ruined this team.

There are fans in Oakland, St. Louis, Detroit and about 25 other cities that would to be so ruined......Even Philly which doesn't know what a Lombardi trophy looks like......
A football team is always in a state of flux or you end up like the mid 90s SF team in cap hell..You win some, you lose some.. To say that the coach who won more games in this decade "ruined" this team is the single most idiotic thing I've read on the Internet in 17 years.....To say you missed on a player is easier said than done. You pick one and then 31 other teams pick. If one of those 31 turns out to be Pro Bowl caliber, you can say " see we should have picked him"........time to hit the ignore button.

You spelled ******* and **** wrong. :D

Seriously, explain to me how "passing up" Leodis Mckelvin hurt this team

Re: "Draft Redux"-Don Banks

I mention in my column all of Belichick's mistakes since 2006. This year was no different.

Bill has ruined this team. Go get some Value bill, by the way that #1 pick they have in 2011. They'll screw it up.

Wow. I didn't know you could package and send "stupid" over the internets.

I still can't believe they passed on Gholston. that decision will haunt the team for years..

You spelled ******* and **** wrong. :D

It was good to let that out.:)

Bah, I've learned to stay clear of the place after a game now. So I come on today hoping for some good stuff and this is what I read first.

It just set me off.

Only too true, I can't believe Bill didn't learn from the wisdom of Mike Ditka and package the entire draft for him.

I don't blame you. That kind of stuff is the price we pay for freedom of speech and an open board. :singing:

Wow, talk about a little short-sighted. We're 13 games through their rookie year. Vollmer has the potential to be an all-pro tackle, butler has potential to be a starter, and pryor was a huge pick as well. Oh, and until Edelman broke his forearm, he was leading rookies in catches. Those are four very valuable picks. It is simply way to early to cast Chung, Brace, and the rest off. Chung, especially. His work ethic is crazy good, and he has Patriots written all over him. It's unfortunate for him he has Merriweather and Mcgowan ahead of him, because with enough playing time, I fully believe Chung will be a solid contributor. I'm very very pleased with this draft so far. Not everyone can be year one stars...compare this draft with some other teams.

And don't forget:
* Brace isn't playing b/c the Pats got a steal with Myron Pryor.
* Jake Ingram is holding down the fort at LS.
* The one rookie that they had to cut is on the PS, and playing well enough that the Pats raised his salary to keep him around.

Where the heck have you been? I've missed you. See what kind of drivel we have to read on this board when you don't post?

Yeah man, I second this. The IQ equilibrium here has been foundering recently.

Pryor is a steal? The guy hasn't made any plays in the regular season for you to say that. It's great that a late round pick made the team, but he's hardly a steal. He doesn't stand out when he is in there. He is basically another LeKevin Smith. Yay. The fact that Pryor is playing more than Brace is more indicative of how awful the Ron Brace pick was.

As far as this guy geddie72, he may be a bit over-dramatic going on about how Bill ruined the Pats, but he's got some solid argument regarding our draft classes. We haven't been good enough in drafting to replace the talent that allowed us to win Super Bowls. Bellichick has drafted some solid players, but he hasn't hit on playmakers that we relied on when we were winning our SBs. Look at our team and honestly ask yourself why we are not winning the games we are accustomed to winning. We just don't have the talent.

Average draft classes, awful free agent pickups. Moss and Welker were great pickups, but football is a team sport, and you need to supplement your team with good/great players everywhere to be an elite team. We are what are record says we are. Bill had a great run of drafts and free agency earlier this decade but the last few years haven't been that good.

will it dose take about 3 years befor you realy now who was the better pick

look at houston a few years ago ever one said they should have picked bush with the first pick bush had 565 yerds rushing and over 700 yerds rec
he's rookie season

Mario Williams only had 4.5 sacks he's rookie season

since then bush's number got worst the saints pretty much got kevin faulk with the 2th over all pick now i love kevin faulk but i dont wanna give a top 5 pick for him

and Mario Williams has 34 sacks since then he is averageing more then 11 sacks a season since he's rookie year houston made the right pick

some times what you seen a player do in he's rookie season is as good as he will ever play and some players get better the next year and so. on

I jest finshed redeing this thred and saz to meself what a waist of facking tim. Oh did I menshon I hav a colom, plez rede it.

Wow, you guys are the Patriot suck up and Kool Aid drinkers that people make fun of. Regardless of spelling. James Laurinaitis and Rey Maualuga were All-Americans as was Clay Matthews. The Patriots have failed miserably in the draft the last 4 years, that's why they are struggling now.

2006 - Maroney and Jackson
2007 - Merriweather
2008 - Mayo and Wheatley
2009 - Chung and Brace

Not one impact player there and that include Mayo who has struggled all year.

Who did they pass up on .

2006 - Maurice Jones-Drew or DeAngelo Williams, Greg Jennings taken in the pick slot the Patriots traded
2007 - Jon Beason, taken one pick after Merriweather
2008 - Leodis McKelvin and pick forfeited or Kevin Smith
2009 - Michael Oher, James L. Rey M. Clay Matthews Jr. Vontae Davis

And whoever said Davis doesn't fit the system should not post about football. Parcells drafted him, its the same system.

Try the Cherry Kool-Aid, its the best.

So what's your take on Pioli's contribution to the mess or is it al BB because he's still here?

Thats so funny:D but something makes me think you have seen an old English comedy called Allo! Allo!

There was a guy in that who used to speak how that reads. For anybody who has never seen it, I recommend watching it if you can.
