After what we paid Adailus and the latest issues in this BB may be a bit shy with the Big bucks but you have to move on.
Any players you think would fit in for us next year?

I don't know the situation with the Rams but they won't be going anywhere for 3/4 years. I don't know what it would take but wouldn't mind seeing
Steven Jackson running the ball for us.

In no order:
Kevin Walter (UFA)
Malcolm Floyd (RFA, but Chargers have other guys to resign)
Shawne Merriman (same as above)
Jason Babin (UFA, DE/OLB from Eagles)
Aaron Kampman (UFA)
Chester Taylor (UFA)
Karlos Dansby (UFA, may be tagged)

Basically, pass-rushers are the first need this offseason and then receiver, but I wouldn't mind Dansby or Taylor either.

Also, any defensive veteran that gets cut would be worth a look, even if it is just to add some leadership to the team.

Ray Edwards.

Steven Jackson is under contract, unless the Rams cut him. He signed a 6 year deal in 2008.

If 2010 is an uncapped year, then 6 years will be required to reach UFA status, and the pool of available UFAs will be drastically reduced. The only players who I can see being of potential interest are:

- DE/OLB Julius Peppers, Carolina - I can't see it, myself, but FAs not FA unless Peppers is mentioned for the Pats
- DE/OLB Aaron Kampman, Green Bay
- LB Karlos Dansby, Arizona - has been franchised twice, may get franchised again or sign a long term deal
- CB Dunta Robinson, Houston - a possibility if we can't re-sign Leigh Bodden

There are a bunch of guys who will be RFAs if it is an uncapped year and possibly UFAs if there is a new CBA, who could be of interest depending on their status and the price:

- WR Mark Clayton, Baltimore - Pats wanted him in 2005
- TE Owen Daniels, Houston
- OT Willie Colon, Pittsburgh - great RT, could be very expensive
- OLB Shawne Merriman, San Diego
- DE/OLB Chris Gocong, Philadelphia
- DE/OLB Ray Edwards, Minnesota
- CB Carlos Rodgers, Washington
- CB Richard Marshall, Carolina

If 2010 is an uncapped year, then the vast majority of UFAs will be players who are cut by their teams because they are underperforming their contracts. These could include guys like New Orleans RB Reggie Bush, Jets DE/OLB Vernon Gholston, and a bunch of others.

I have no interest in anyone until Day One of free agency when we see who is actually available. Many players will be re-signed or extended by that date. Others will be waived. Also we will know whether there is a cap and the rules for the season.

For me, I would love having a guy like Merriamn, but have no idea whether he will be avialable.

Hopefully the Iggles will hang a second round tender on Gocong.

Peppers mention = :)

As far as Dansby goes, if the Cardinals franchise him again, they have to give him QB money. I don't think he's worth that much to them.

My first choice would be to sign a pass rusher like Shawne Merriman and trade up for ILB Rolando McClain.

My second choice would be to sign Karlos Dansby and get 2 pass rushers in the draft. If Dansby can be signed for AD-type money I'd do it. NEPatriots had the Pats taking Jeremy Beal and Brandon Graham in his latest mock, and they would do wonders. Greg Romeus and Austen Lane are other possibilities.

Either way would be very nice.

I like the mention of Babin. If healthy, he's the sneaky low-cost signing that Belichick could find a spot for.

I think Walter would be beyond redundant with guys like Welker, Edelman, and Aiken on the team. If we sign a FA WR, it had better be someone who can threaten the secondary deep -- a Devery Henderson type.

Josh Reed? Whats so good about him?

I admit i don't know much about the guy but i think he plays in the slot? His career high in yards is 597 and TD's are 2.

How about Willis McGahee? I think he's still got something left in him, he's only 28 years old and he's due 3.6 million next season. With Ray Rice turning into a monster as the everydown back, McGahee most likely won't be back with the Ravens next year. In college he was one the most complete backs I've ever seen play. He could cut and run and stop on a dime but could also power over you. It's a shame he suffered that devastating knee injury, he was going to be a star.

Now he's more of a between the tackles pounder. Only 28 years old, and probably gonna have a chip on shoulder wanting to prove he can still be an impact player and is probably getting to the point where he wants to win rather than make big money. I'd take him over Taylor and Morris. Maroney and McGahee with Faulk and a drafted replacement for Faulk? I'd be happy with that.

Interesting thought. At 6' 235# he's basically a younger version of Fred Taylor. Not as good as Taylor was at his best, but almost 6 years younger with less wear and tear and less injury prone. In spite of his reduced workload he's still had 9 TDs this season, and his 4.0 YPC is essentially his career average (3.9 YPC).

Morris and Taylor are both under contract through 2010. Do you see them being cut?

Neither contract is exorbitant, but Taylor's is significantly more $ (Morris is due ~$1M, Taylor ~$2M).

Then again, this is the third season in a row where Morris has missed massive time (although, admittedly, the first one was a freak injury).

What do you think of picking up a bruiser like McGahee in FA vs. someone like Reggie Bush? I'm a bit ambivalent. I think we could use playmakers, and Bush could be used creatively in this offense (if we ever go back to being creative again). But I like the idea of a big guy complementing Maroney, too.

Yeah I like the idea of getting either Bush as well. He's the perfect type of pass catching RB that would be perfect in our offense. However, I suggested McGahee b/c I also like adding a bruiser like McGahee to our backfield. Morris is too injury prone and Taylor is old. I'd take either one and address the other need in the draft.

Great plan.

Thank you. :)

Which do you think is a more likely scenario? I would think McGahee would be more likely to end up here.

Even though Bush hasn't lived up to his hype, he's still a huge weapon in the passing game, as a 3rd down and change of pace back, and on special teams. I think he could still get pretty good money if he is cut.

We don't like to overpay, so I think we have a better shot at McGahee winding up here. He'd probably sign on for a cheap price in a place where he had a chance to win and an opportunity to prove he could still play. A duo of him and Maroney would allow us to establish a ton of physicality with our running game.

I love the idea of adding either one. The fact that there are a good mix of scat and power backs in the draft makes it even more interesting. I'd think we'd be more prone to go McGahee and scat back to replace Faulk in the draft.

What are your thoughts?

No idea. I'd pursue both. If 2010 is an uncapped year, why not go after both and see what happens. I agree that Bush is less likely as he will probably get more offers, but you never know. I'd be happy to give bush something like $3M/year and McGahee Fred Taylor money at around $2M/year. Add them both and you would have a solid long-term solution at RB with no pressure to hit on the draft. Maroney should be re-signable.

It won't happen. But I'd look at both, and keep my options open.
