Bigger need next year WR or RB?

While we need to address the PASS RUSH next year I see a need for either a RB/WR after OL. I dot not want any WR in the first 2 rounds but would like to see us grab one on day 2. Moss is getting older and while I love Welker, he shouldn't have to get 10-12 cathes for us to win. We takes a beating.
Another WR and more of a power RB would help him.

BB is hard to predict and this year SHOULD draft some kind of pass rushing DE/LB but he could surprise.
We need another OL to protect Brady and to replace who we may lose this offseason but RB should also be addressed.

Some drafts have us taking Jahvid Best or Jonathan Dwyer in the 1st round but I belive pass rush is more important. Mocks are fun but they don't mean anything.

So; what do you believe is a bigger need next year WR/RB after OL and pass rush?

I don't think either WR or RB is a need in the first 2-3 rounds. Of the two positions I would prioritize RB over WR for a mid round pick, for several reasons:

1. Maroney has been doing well, but Faulk/Morris/Taylor are all 33 or above. Faulk's contract is up after 2009, Maroney/Morris/Taylor after 2010. Drafting a young back to complement Maroney makes sense.

2. We need to give Brandon Tate a chance as the 3rd WR.

3. We already have 3 young WRs in Tate, Edelman and Stanbeck. If we were to bring in another WR I would try to target a veteran.

Stanback isn't the guy. Edelman will likely be a second slot guy. I hope that Tate will become the guy we hope but it's 50-50 at best right now realistically about 25-75. Going into 2011 we have Welker, maybe Tate, maybe Moss if he comes back cheap. Good luck with that.

By this logic, the Patriots would need to spend half their draft on RBs. Even better, only one of the UFAs you suggested (Chester Taylor) is actually guaranteed to be a UFA in 2010 if it's uncapped (the rest are RFAs).

We wouldnt trade LoMo. Hes been great this year. Definitely need to look at WR and RB as areas of need for the future, along with the OL. I think we should look interior OL with 1 of our first 4 picks next year, WR possibly as well along with OLB and DL help with the other 2 picks. Then look RB in the mid rounds

I agree that we don't need a RB or WR in the first three rounds although as always, the value could be there.

We all seem to agree that needs at DE, OLB, OG come first. Some add OT assuming that Light will be traded.

And these might not even finish our early round needs if we don't re-sign or replace Wilfork, Watson and Bodden.

So, it seem we are asking about late 3rd or 4th round priorities, I would say it is a crapshoot and we should get whatever value is out there. As far as evaluating need and how to meet that need, I think that drafting a mid-round RB makes sense.

RUNNING BACK
We will have Maroney and Taylor as our core next year. We can choose to keep or upgrade Morris and/or Green Ellis. Personally, I would like a real fullback or short yardage back. I would expect us to re-sign Faulk. Given that we are likely to carry five, I don't see why we wouldn't.

In the end, this position isn't a real need for 2010 if we re-sign Faulk. I don't believe in developing running backs. If we need a couple in 2011, then we'll secure them then.

WIDE RECEIVER
As you say, we have three kids. There is no reason to draft another. I would expect to being in a veteran or two but it would seem that two out of Tate, Edelman and Stanback may indeed be reasonable #3 and #4 receivers. Aiken is our special team specialist and therefore a given as the #5 WR or #6.

Only if you assume that 2010 will be capped. If 2010 is uncapped—and that certainly appears quite likely—only players with six years of service will be eligible for unrestricted free agency. Of the four you list, only Taylor has the requisite six years.

I agree; of the 2 positions, it's more clear than ever that we need another WR higher in the draft than a RB.

The lazy, incompetent, cowardly pile of garbage that is the Randy Ratio must go as soon as the season's over. If asked, I would personally drive from Hershey to Foxborough, pick up him & Adalius, and drop both of those scumbags at Green Airport on my return to PA.

Rounds 3-5? It's too early for mock drafts IMO, but Jordan Shipley will be a (probably high) 1st rounder. I'd take him as our #1 pick in a heartbeat if he's around by then.

Eh, I dunno about that, but I'd certainly be interested in the second round. [My biggest worry is that he does have a history of injuries, and he'll be 25 before the 2010 season ends. Then again, age didn't stop them from taking Kaczur. . . .]

I do agree we need depth at WR, but I can not see Shipley going on day one, even if he runs a 4.4 at the combine. However I could see the Pats being interested in him in the third or fourth round if he projects to run good option routes in the NFL.

The only WR I have seen this year that is a playmaker is Gilyard from Cincy. I am very interested to see how he runs at the combine.
