With everyone here saying we need more of a between the tackles/power back, would Gerhart be on the radar in the late 2nd to early 3rd round(where draftniks have him projected)?

I dont imagine Fred Taylor back (1yr deal, right?) and Sammy Morris is kind of getting up there in age (33 by the time 2010 season starts)

Scouts inc has Gerhart with a grade of 76 - 7th best running back & 88th
overall best player.

I happen to really like Gerhart and I would love to see the Pats draft him

Running Backs

Toby Gerhart RB 6'0¼" 237 Stanford 76 7 88

I am starting to belive we may go RB on day one.
Any of these three would be nice but Dwyer is a big bigger and we need this type more imo.

Will either Morris or Taylor be on the team next year? Morris has missed to many games and Taylor may be done as well. I do believe we need a Solid RB to go with Maroney.

A good draft to me would be pass rusher, pass rusher,OL and RB on day one.

Honestly, I'm not so sure running back is a huge priority anymore.

But if we did grab one, and Dwyer was unavailable, Gerhart is the man. The kid runs so damn hard. He's just a joy to watch, and I fully believe the only reason he's rated so low on draft sites is because he's white and people don't know how to process seeing a white boy as a featured RB anymore.

Seriously, the guy just lost the closest Heisman vote in history. If he was black he'd be a bankable first rounder. Al he's done is dominate every game he's played in, rushed for over 1700 yards, and stomped in 26 touchdowns. All season, teams have known Stanford are going to give him the ball 30 times a game yet they still can't stop him.

Can the Pats count on Taylor and Morris for next year? I'm not at all sure.

I am 100% sure we can not count on these guys next season.

I think once CJ Spiller runs a sub 4.3 forty at the combine, he will go in the top half of round 1.
Plus I think he scored a touchdown in every single game this season, talk about a big play machine, that type of production will appeal to teams.

Dwyer runs in a non traditional offense, not sure if in BB's mind, that would make him a projections, but if it does, then BB will passon him as well.

There are a ton of second tier backs that might interest BB including Fresno State's Mathews.

But yes I could see us picking up a back in the draft and maybe someone like Upchurch of alabama as a free agent.

No they can't count on them. But Maroney has put in a nice turn this year and with the way running back picks have gone the last 5 years, I'm not keen for the Pats to spend anything higher than a low 2 on one.

I don't see RB as a high value position in the draft.

I like dwyer as well because I believe he can be the heath evans of old with alot more speed.....he can play FB and actually block and can be the tailback in short yardage.....I really hope we can snag this guy as late as possible

Gerhart is awesome, I don't think he'll be available much past the mid 2nd round. Hopefully we can address the pass rush situation in free agency, the O-line in the 1st round, and get Gerhart as well.

This out from Scout Inc.'s draft blog:

"Stanford RB Toby Gerhart (No. 88) finished a mere 28 points behind Ingram, making it the closest Heisman race in history. Gerhart's amazing run to New York is even more amazing considering the work load he's had this semester. The San Francisco Chronicle explains: 'While carrying Stanford's football team on his back this season, Gerhart was also carrying a 21-credit course load, featuring courses like Prehistoric Archaeology and Integral Calculus. Your average Stanford student takes 15 credits. Throw in the fact that he's also the starting center fielder on Stanford's baseball team. And that he was the valedictorian at his high school. And that he's majoring in management sciences and engineering. And that he's the all-time leading rusher in California high school history. And that he leads the nation in both rushing yards and touchdowns this season. You get the picture of an extraordinary individual.'"

He certainly does a nice job of running behind Classics majors OT Chris Marinelli (also a double major in economics) and OG Andrew Phillips.

RB is a possibility but we need to get more athletic there and from what Ive seen from Gerhart is a fairly instinctive runner with good vision and power. Unfortunately hes not a great athlete (STIFF AS HELL), runs straight up, doesn't have great speed and I don't think he'd bring much to the team. I think Charles or Anthony Dixon if you want an in between the tackles back. Better athletes, faster, run lower.

Dwyer's head coach came over from Navy. Eckel played from him and those three kids currently on the reserve/military list all played in the same offense. If Dwyer sparks BB's interest I doubt the offense will be an issue.

I'd like it if the Pats added Gerhardt. I think he could be had with one of the 2nd rounders and that he'd be a great value pick for them. In tandem with Maroney, they'd be a very dynamic set of RBs...

This is going to be a interesting draft with the Pats having 4 picks in the 1st two rounds..

They do have needs (OLB/ILB/TE) but there seems to be a fairly deep LB class as well.
