the fact that the last truly good value the pats acquired at LB was mike vrabel in 2001. since then, its been a carousel of guys who have either not been good value or have just not been good. right now we have mayo and guyton as the the only ones for whom the jury is still out, but it has been a long time.
I don't recall if the pats signed phifer before they signed vrabel and am not going to bother to look it up, but he and vrabel were the only ones who weren't already here. you could throw byan cox in that pile, too. but since then, its been a real drought.
maybe if its impossible to find the exact type to fit your scheme, maybe its time to change the scheme
