Things I would love the O to do

Here is a list of things I think could help the O out to be less predictable.

1) Use the screen to set up a mid-to-deep go route.

Put Welker, Aiken and Watson (set wide) on one side and Moss on the other. Moss would comand a safety over the top and he doesn't block well anyway. Throw a screen to Welker with big Aiken and Watson blocking. Do this once or twice then look like you are doing it again and after Watson or Aiken fakes a block send one of them deep. If safety bites, deep man should be free to go. Even if the deep play is a wash out it should help keep the D honest for the next time we throw the screen.

2) Get Faulk and Maroney on the field at the same time.

Put Faulk in the slot more as he is our third best option catching the ball anyway.

3) Middle screen to TE

Not sure if you remember it but the screen teh Saints threw to Shockey was brilliant. Brees faked screen to left, spun faked screen right and threw to a wide open TE up the middle as the LBS bit on the fakes and left the middle open. Even if this doesn't work it might keep the ILB in the middle when we do throw the screens to Welker.

That's nice but there's no way Brady would have enough time to run a play like that when teams are consistently collapsing the pocket with 3 or 4 rushers.

How about running the ball successfully about 45-50% of the snaps? Our passing game might be our strength but if we abandon the run, we get too predictable as an offense.

Things that I would like to see the offense do:

1. Establish the run and stick with it. Don't abandon it.

2. Be more physical on the LOS.

3. Use more play action.

4. Involve the TEs and RBs more in the passing game.

5. Use more screen passes.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Especially 1. I want to see us running on around 50% of plays, sustained throughout the game; more if we're leading by more than a TD.

I have already given up on pounding the ball. I love when teams just wear down the opponent with a relentless physical running game but that is not - and will never- be the Pats. Pre 50 TD Brady maybe. Now never. I'm not putting the blame on Brady. It just seems once we have 2 running plays for 2 or less yards the teams says 'Screw it...we have Brady, Moss and Welker...air it out."

We'll be a pass-oriented team as long as TB is around, but I think we can find much more balance. The running game serves several purposes:

1. Takes pressure off of the QB and keeps opposing defenses guessing.
2. Wears down opposing DLs.
3. Is effective in short yardage situations.

We're not that far removed from the days of Corey Dillon breaking defense's backs and opposing team's spirits in the 4th quarter.

It depends on the line's health. If healthy, Brady could very easily do that. If not, Brady would get killed within 2.3 seconds of dropping back.

Things would improve dramatically if this were the formula. It sure seemed to work in the past, let's get back to it.

But they're not though. If they were I'd agree 100% with the OP.
