I'm not that well up on what we would have to give up in trades.

If we sign Peppers what is the potential cost of that trade?
If we sing Jason Taylor what is the potential cost of that trade?

I think one if not both might be coming this way, bringing in rookies is always a risk and we need a locker room presence/leader which you are unlikely to find in the draft.

So I'm just wondering what people think are the implications of these trades both draft and/or personnel?

Both of them are, barring a franchise tag, unrestricted free agents.

To sign a franchised player, the "traditional cost" is two first-round draft picks, although if the player is amenable to a trade, the cost is whatever the two teams agree to. In this case, who knows what that would be?

If Jason Taylor wanted to be a Patriot, he would've been a Patriot this year.


Don't count on it youll just end up dissapointed. Same with Julius Peppers. He's good, but not as good as his contract suggests.

Opinions are fine and thats all these are but if either of these two do come here it makes a huge difference to our draft.

All I was asking is what the potential hit to us regarding a trade for those players would be.

Belichick was sweet talking Taylor after the first game between the Patriots and fins this year and there is a huge mutual respect between them.
I'm not saying either will certainly happen but if I am to do a mock I want to be real about it and I think its very likely we will sign a DE.

Peppers will be a Free Agent next off-season, he is making 17 million this year under the franchise tag. If the Panthers were to tag him again, they would have to pay him 20% MORE than this year, or roughly 20.4 Million Dollars (or roughly 1/5th of their entire salary cap space). So I think it is safe to say that they are not going to franchise him again.

So both Peppers and Taylor will be free agents. I think that if Taylor wanted to be a Pat he would have done it this year, and I would take him off any list for 2010.

It should be very interesting.

There's no doubt Peppers is a difference maker when he's on. But after essentially throwing away $35M+ on Adalius Thomas, I wonder how eager Mr. Kraft would be to throw the bank at a 30+ defensive player with a known history of inconsistency and petulancy.
