Simmons: Brady has broken ribs

Bill Simmons tweeted yesterday that Tom broke some ribs in Sundays game.

"Hearing that Tom Brady jogged off field after first Miami TD because he broke ribs (plural). Came back wearing a flak jacket."

Someone asked Reiss about this and he said:

"Can not confirm that on Brady at this point."

I dont know what to think about this. I dont know if I trust Bill Simmons, but Reiss didnt deny this, so I guess its a possibility.

EDIT: He is practicing today, so if his ribs were actually broken I dont think he would be practicing.

I can see them being bruised, but broken? You can't BREATHE without extreme pain with broken ribs, let alone play football right after it happens.

Either this is an exaggeration, or TB is one tough SOB.

He did jog off the field and he hasn't seemed to be uncomfortable walking around. If he's not at practice today, then we can worry, but I have a feeling is absence the last couple of days is a combo of being a bit beat up and the new baby.

Another thing I'd like to add is that he wasnt in the locker room very long at all on Sunday, so it would be very hard to diagonose him with broken ribs in that short period of time.

I dont think its true, but just think its worth mentioning with what Simmons had to say

That is a crock. You cannot break your ribs and be able to jog like he did, back to the field.

When you break your ribs, it hurts, even just to breath. I honestly think it was an equipment issue, when he went to the locker room.

Bill Simmons would probably love that. The guy is a closet Patriots hater and has been for several years now. I guess living in LA for so long can really change a guy.

Some guys can't play with high ankle sprains or softballs dangling from their elbows, or seperated shoulders or sports hernias. Others find a way to. Anyone who doesn't know this guy is one of the toughest SOB's on the field every week must have spent the last decade living under a rock. The guys on WEEI were eluding to the fact that if Brady appeared to be struggling more in the second half Sunday or not animated enough to suit their perception, it might well have been the effect of all the painkillers he was employing to get through the game. And like 'em or hate 'em the O Show guys have their sources...Wouldn't be the first time either as he's always done pretty much whatever it took to stay on or get back on the field. Felger says he was shot to the max for that first SB. He clearly has a rib injury, but one man's crack is another man's break, kinda like with sprains that are all on some level tears.

Actually, bruised and broken feel the same as long as the ribs aren't completely snapped. You really can't fully breathe in or out, but you can still manage. I broke some ribs in a soccer game and played through it and several games after it. The problem is that it takes like a month to heal.

My question is the why the heck wasn't he wearing a flak jacket before then?

I can't say whether he has cracked ribs or not but I stated the same thing when he went to the locker room last sunday. He came out looking more bulky and I said he must have put on a Flack Jacket I was suprised the announcer didn't notice it.

Same here it could be the new baby and the beating he has taken over the season.

Simmons is wrong. The ribs may be bruised or, at the most, cracked, but they're not broken. I don't care how tough TFB is, he is not playing in a game with broken ribs.

Yeah, the word is "fractured" which (like "torn" for ligaments) can mean more or less. Fractured ribs hurt, I know, but ... it's only pain. McNair played with fractured ribs more than once, if I recall.

The issue, as you say, is long term healing and not aggravating the injury. If it's true, he should have been in a flak jacket to start with. All we saw afterwards on the TV was Brady with some padding around his kidneys.
