why the hell are these 2 taking up roster spots, and where are all of you who said we'd be fine with these guys?

Re: the real question.....woods and crable

Crable's on IR, so he's not taking up a roster spot. Woods is a backup/special teams player. Any other questions?

Re: the real question.....woods and crable

Crable isn't taling up a roster spot. Woods is a good ST player. Clearly Woods isn't going to be a LB for us, he's been around long enough that he'd be playing more if that was realistic. It would be foolish to give up on Crable yet, given our LB situation, but it's not looking good right now.

crable is toast unless you can find me a player who did anything after being a complete zero for the first 2 years.

as for woods, plenty of people here had him penciled in as a solid starter opposite thomas. I was not among them and it was funny some of the remarks that were directed at me for calling him a bum (and he is)

After 2 seasons with the Steelers James Harrison had zero tackles.

Re: the real question.....woods and crable

I'am not super knowlegable on this type of stuff but Crable is on IR and I think next training camp is boom or bust for him, if I remember correctly there was quite a bit of buzz around him as someone who had quite a bit of skill coming off the edge and could be an impact player if he could stay on the field, if the coaching staff have kept him around this long given his injuries there must be a reason so I will defer to them.
As far as Woods is concerned I believe his specialty is on ST, and did we not keep the likes of Matt Chatham and Larry Izzo around who were ST aces but were subpar LB's?

it wasn't for lack of ability..........he was behind gildon, porter, and bell who were all at the top of their game

what's crable's excuse? he's a boo-boo machine, that's about it....can't even get on the practice field

so why even discuss football? just nod your head in favor of everything the organization does

I love this team and everyone in the organization, but they have really really screwed the pooch in terms of OLB and the pass rush.

It is what it is. Crable flashed ability his rookie preseason but, clearly, time is running out.

I started a thread 2 years ago, after a preseason game vs the Giants, declaring that Crable would never get on the field for a regular season game. In that game, Pats are on D... goal line stand in the 4th qtr vs scrubs...3 straight running plays...Crable blown backwards 5 yards each play. Never seen anything like it. Of course, the fanboys had been rehearsing the Patriots good, World Bad mantra and believed that Crable was the second coming despite the phantom IR that 1st season. "Build up his legs and insert him into the starting lineup"!
Hope I'm wrong

Dont get me wrong tanked I dont think everything the organization does is without fault, but you put out a question to get opinions, so I gave you mine..

when did he flash ability? the only time he got was against UDFA's in preseason. he hasn't had so much as a cup of coffee versus any kind of regular

the real gist is the point that BB pretty much left this team naked at OLB this year.

'whatever the org does is ok' technically is an opinion, but it really isn't very much of one

Re: the real question.....woods and crable

Why does Greg Hardy remind me of a poormans Willie McGinnest?

Re: the real question.....woods and crable

Woods and Crable. Sounds like the name of a bluegrass band.

So not only do you disagree with my opinon you decide whether it is an opinon or not...So an " I totally disagree with what the organization has done with drafting OLB's" is an opinon such as your quote "why the hell are these 2 taking up roster spots, and where are all of you who said we'd be fine with these guys?"
and a "I'll let the experts who know what they are doing make that decesion, as there must have been evidence that someone had potential" is not one...

My man The Crab is NOT taking up a roster spot. Check before posting.
Next camp is make or break for him, although he's relatively cheap as a backup assuming he can actually play some LB.

Woods though good on STs is too expensive for that minimal contribution. This was his wide open opportunity to show that he'd developed LB skills. He has not. Guaranteed gone next year; he will not get a new contract when this years' expires.

Re: the real question.....woods and crable

This is always a good point to emphasize. So many posters want to cut, cut, cut, without giving a prospect time to develop. Need to realize that the maturity period for players varies wildly.

Woods
I am a great believer that being in the active 45 for 3 yrs in a row is no way a bust for a UDFA.

After seeing Banta/harrison come in 4th-5th yr or so and woods taking the same path for a UDFA i am not really suprised. He played behind vrabel,ad .I would like to see him in there he was good setting the edge and picking up RB/FB in the flat something burgess cannot do to save his life.

Woods greatest asset was he sets the edge but lacks pass rushing instincts of when to rush .we replaced him with burgess who cannot hold the edge so need to be rotated in during 3rd downs or pass rush by his lack of sacks. that is one crazy thing if you think about it.

Crabel
I remember how he was going to put woods out of a job and take over the starting role from vrabel.
I think he is going to be cut next year. 2yr out of football is not good.
