What's next off seasons top priority?

So now that most people agree whats needed.
What number pick are the pats likely to get?

If they go get into the play offs will they then have to trade up from sat 22-26 to get the quality that is needed and if they do will the cap space be there to pay the to fill the neccessary.

Basically what I'm asking is will BB have to make other major roster adjustments to get this person in?

I don't think the Patriots would trade up. With a rookie salary cap(maybe) coming in 2011, I think you will see a lot of talented players coming out early. Belichick likes the second round. I think you will most likely see a scenario where the Patriots trade down to the second and maybe pick up a third round and a fifth rounder to replace the ones we gave away for Burgess.

  • DE
  • 2 Stud GUARDS (one to play immediately and one to be nipping at heels for a job).
  • A WR in the physical mould of Ben Watson (or convert Ben and...)
  • An H-Back or Fullback.

In reality, if this O-Line were beastly, it would fix a LOT of our problems. On top of that, we need a younger, durable Seymour sort of dude. If the DL can push the pocket, one rusher (safety, corner, LB) could often be enough to screw with other QB's. Right now, the push isn't big enough.

It's easy to start hollering for LB's (and we do need one) or defensive backs (with each loss Bodden's price is going up), but we have solid and better guys, we're just expecting them to often be the ONLY line of defensive on passing plays. It's like our DL and LB's are just there to help the OL feel useful sometimes...

Was just wondering with the new reality out there that there no defensive leaders after many years of there being a glut of them that BB will throw the kitchen sink at picking up a stud DE or LB.
certainly if NE finish as divisional champs would he have to change his habits and go that root.

All pure speculation of course.

1. Olb
2. Olb
3. Olb
4. Olb
5. Olb
6. Olb
7. De
8. Ol
9. Dt
10. Cb

The OLB position is way down on Belichick's list. He will address that

need in rounds 4 thru 7.

Well since Weis was mentioned here, I'm going to say an OC who can see that the DL is getting a jump on the ball each time because not only do they know when we're running and when we're throwing, but they know the count as wll.

Go ahead and watch the Phins game again, and you will see that DL getting off the ball.

Our OL isn't as bad as it looks.

You can't expect an OL to perform well if the defense is teeing off and knows when to go.

New Head Coach...the Belichick era is over...it starts at the top...going for all these 4th downs is glaring evidence his heart is not in it anymore....

Let the hating begin.....

Top DE who can apply extreme constant pressure on a QB.

There is so much..... we need

I expect it because "Sacred Cows" are defended to the bitter end. I am personally thankful for what Bill did in the past. Yet, every Coach's tenure eventually comes to an end. Belichick and his failures over the past number of years are the very large Elephant in the room that no one wants to admit is there.

large elephant you say.....

Well then....

We need a pass rush, whether that means 4-3 DEs or 3-4 OLBs, I don't really care. Aside from that, we need cornerbacks who can cover guys, and depth across the offensive line. A real OC wouldn't hurt either

I would note that the pats have never had a defense that used a strong pass rush, or a top pass rusher. If you want to emphasize strong direct pressure on the QB by top pash rushers, forget the DC. You'll need replace Belichick. This is bend and don't break defense, now and forever.

Nobody is saying that we used to be the '85 Chicago Bears, or even the '07 New York Giants for that matter. However, our pass rush was lightyears better than it has been the past two seasons in the dynasty days. Yes, we have always been a bend-but-don't-break defense, but that philosophy worked because, in large part, we were able to harass the quarterback on a somewhat regular basis which would force bad throws into a secondary anchored by Ty Law and Rodney Harrison. Our defense bent a lot more than it broke. This year, our defense has been breaking a lot more than it has bent... especially lately.

I would take Bill Belichick over ANY coach in the league. That said, if BB retired tomorrow, I would not mind Cowher coming in and taking the reigns at all. I love the kind of football his teams play. Punch you in the mouth on defense and run the ball down your throat on offense with a quarterback that can easily take advantage of the defense and move the chains once they cheat up to stop the run. On top of that, Cowher has shown an ability to rebuild teams on the run (something that BB is in the midst of doing with this defense).

....because after all, a good coach is not supposed to lose Everrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Those of us who are longtime Patriots fans can at least look forward to one thing when this team returns to mediocrity--inevitably.

The bandwagoners will be gone.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think we need a young, big running back. The reason we can't hold a lead is we don't have a runing attack capable of chewing up the clock. Let's forget old injury prone RBs and get the biggest toughest back available when we draft in the first round.[/QU

First, there has to be an offensive line that can run block.
