Im not writing off the Pats cause I sill think they win the division and make the playoffs, and then who knows what can happen. They can go onto winning the SB or be one n done.

But what do you guys think is the position BB needs to upgrade the most? Im assuming the most popular answer is going to be pass rusher, do we go via draft or make a move for a proven rusher?

Well, once again the same positions need improvement.

- Secondary
- LB's
- DL
- OL
- 3rd WR
- younger RB's

etc.

To answer your question, it should be offensive line because of how much they throw. I didn't mention pass rush because that is already the most obvious need.

- defensive linemen that can get after the QB
- LB
- OL
- WR

1. DE
2. Linebackers
3. O-Line depth, possibly a RT or a Center
4. WR3 (though iffy because we're still not sure what we have in Tate)

Here is what I see as our biggest needs:

D Line
OLB
Secondary
OL
RB
WR

In that order.. We need to get a prolific pass rusher, a couple cheap cover guys, and a 3rd WR. That's what we need no question about it.

1. Olb
2. Olb
3. Olb
4. Olb
5. Olb
6. Olb
7. De
8. Ol
9. Dt
10. Cb

Adequate coaching support from coordinators. BB's 'promote from within' isn't working or will take too long. Getting new personnel is useless otherwise.

We need a veteran staff and a full complement of them.

BB needs to lose the idea that he can do it all. I still trust him, his judgement, etc. but I think he needs to reevaluate his staff.

A stud 3-4 DE I think would make a huuuuge difference. Now, who that is or how we get him I have no idea.

Didn't we used to have one of those? :D

Lineman. Either side i don't care.

Specifically Corey Wooten from Northwestern, AND Witherspoon from Missouri is a nice start :)

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think we need a young, big running back. The reason we can't hold a lead is we don't have a runing attack capable of chewing up the clock. Let's forget old injury prone RBs and get the biggest toughest back available when we draft in the first round.

Somewhere on the list should be "QB2." As much as Brady gets hit and the time it took Cassel to become serviceable, I think the staff needs to decide if Hoyer is the one...or move on and find someone.

I say this because #1-8 on our offseason to-do list could be checked off with everyone's satisfaction...but we are one play away from being a 9-7 team (or worse).

It made so much sense that I'm not going to repeat it. I just hope that Charlie comes back. I really do.

It used to be that you would have to be ready for a job before you got it. Our offensive and defensive coordinators are not ready. Bill tries to float to promote a little too much. The well went dry. We need a fresh direction and new ideas. There are a number of really good college coaches who respect Bill. Many of those guys would jump at the drop of a hat to learn for a few years under him.

Moss, Brady, Faulk, Light, and Neal are all getting old waiting for a good coordinator to develop. We need a fresh strategy and I hope someone else can do it. Now it may seem strange to think as Charlie Weis' to be thought of as new, but he's been away from the team for a bit. He still visits, but it's not the same as it was before. He's been running his own ship and experimenting with his own ideas. It's time we brought some of those ideas into the fold.

I think many on the board feel it has to do more with a pass-blocking OL that can't control the neutral zone in crunch time...or poor play calling.
Also, I think it may be harder to run out of the shotgun and taking a toss or getting a head of steam on a handoff.

1) Pass Rusher
2)Offensive Coordinator
2a)Defensive Coordinator
3)Pass Rusher
4)Secondary Coach
5)Pass Rusher

I was in the big ol RB camp at the beginning of the season, but now I feel that it's mainly the issues you describe. I wouldn't be averse to picking up a power back and an all purpose back later in the draft, but I wouldn't spend a top pick on one at this point. We don't use what we have effectively, and we don't run block very well, so watching a bigger guy run into a wall wouldn't be very satisfying.

So now that most people agree whats needed.
What number pick are the pats likely to get?

If they go get into the play offs will they then have to trade up from sat 22-26 to get the quality that is needed and if they do will the cap space be there to pay the to fill the neccessary.

Basically what I'm asking is will BB have to make other major roster adjustments to get this person in?

I would note that the pats have never had a defense that used a strong pass rush, or a top pass rusher. If you want to emphasize strong direct pressure on the QB by top pash rushers, forget the DC. You'll need replace Belichick. This is bend and don't break defense, now and forever.
