FG in the first half instead of going for it on 4th down.....that we STILL would have won the game today??? I hope he learns something from this one.....take the points.......

I think everyone has thought about this. At the time I dont think anyone thought that it would have effected the outcome of the game. BB thought they could get the first down and got 6 points instead of 3.

My opinion is they should have kicked the FG and took the points. We were playing the Dolphins, not the Saints or the Colts. We shouldnt have to worry about them putting up 35+ points making us worry about getting a TD every possession

NO the Patriots would have still loused today. The Dolphins would have gotten a TD instead of a FG. I have no doubt about that.

Nothing wrong with going for it in that situation. I just didn't like the play, never have cared for those quick-hitters.

By the way, in the future please refrain ...

I don't mind that call all that much but if you're going to go for it then why not go for it near midfield which looked like a shorter conversion (if I'm remembering correctly). At least be consistent with it. Situational football has been a major weakness now. Coaching has been all around dreadful, odd year from a BB-led staff.

Agreed. The 3 points weren't the reason we lost the game. The defense letting Chad Henne look like a Pro Bowler and the offense's continued second half struggles were the reason we lost.

Normally you go for it on 4th down when you can say with the utmost certainty that your offense will get it. They are just not manhandling teams like they have done in the past.

I didn't like that and I didn't like the two runs on 3rd and long. Sorry but coaching has just been horrible all around this year. I don't know what it is, last year was perhaps BB's best year of coaching thus far and this year its just awful.

I think he both wanted the touchdown and also to leave Miami with as little time left on the clock at the end of the half. Making a first down there probably takes about 40 seconds off the clock. I think the BB wanted to avoid the situation where Miami had the last possession of the half and the first possession of the next half.

I don't have a problem with the call.

The reality for me is this. The Patriots are a team of considerable hubris. In roster moves. In how the staff deals with the press. In how they play the games. I'm good with that. The poor execution pisses me off, but that's another story. I don't have a problem with the decisions.

The thing about hubris is that when you fail, it's always going to seem like poetic justice.

every one was talking about how bad the red zone O was at the start of the year how they are only geting FG's will ill take FG's over turn the ball over on downs and INT's

BB not takeing the FG was all most as bad of a call as the 4th and 2 call ve the colts

Part of his thinking was obviously putting them 95 yards away with only two minutes left if the attempt failed. As someone else pointed out, they would've had plenty of time to score a TD if we had kicked the FG and given them the ball at, say, the 30. Plus, we had been running the ball well and have had success on the Morris dive play all year. We lost because they made all the plays in crunch time while we crumbled.

It didn't do much good, the Dolphins still managed to score a field goal on that last drive Bill is just making very poor coaching decisions..

I think that they are totally different situations....with the same outcome.....contributed to us losing. Against the colts.....NEVER take a chance that will give Peyton Manning the ball on YOUR own 28.....but lets not pick at that scab......Against the doofins....you can tell early on that yes they are moving the ball on you....but walking away with FG's.....take THE POINTS......it may be the difference like it was today......now if this is against a high powered offense like Indy or NO.......I could see going for it.....because 3 pts against those guys isn't worth as much......

There is a problem with that train of thought. If BB takes the FG, then the entire rest of the game changes and we have no idea what happens.

In all honesty, I have no issue with him going for it on 4th down. The Pats were 6/9 prior to that and really 7/9 since the Faulk catch should have been a 1st down. My issue was the play call. If you are going to use Morris as short-yardage back, give him someone to lead for him.. He couldn't get any momentum. Not only that, Morris, had he just gone UP and OVER, would have had the 1st down easily.

Right but if he had kicked the FG and then kicked off, the Fins might have scored a TD....try to follow along. The coaching decisions are not poor. The play design and execution are poor.

4th and 2 in Indianapolis was a bad decision going for it.

4th and 1 in Miami was not a bad decision to go for it, but it was a bad choice of play call. It should have been another Maroney run with the fullback leading. The people at the party I was attending all heard me saying that the Patriots should bring in the fullback and run Maroney twice in a row as needed after the second down run.

Needless to say, they were not surprised at my reaction towards the 4th down failure. The empty backfield play on 3rd and one (different drive) had quite a few of us scratching our heads as well.

I was more irritated that the Dolphins drove right down the field and kicked their own field goal.

Patriots D: decidely hospitable during the December holidays . . .

I've defended the Pats D to great lengths on here and I think they hold their own fairly well when things are going good.... but they sure do fold like a cheap tent it seems whenever something goes wrong and that drive was a good example. It looked way too easy. Just like after Brady's pick @ NO and the 4th and 2 failure... I understand not being able to keep them out the end zone but they didn't even put up a fight other than maybe one running play near the goal line (which actually worked against us timewise).

We have serious issues with lack of leadership and just poor situational play/coaching like I mentioned earlier. I don't remember a Pats team that has look as confused or burnt as many timeouts before the 2 minute warning as this current team.
