Saw most of it, random notes:
- Greg McElroy was the best player on the field followed by McClain
- Ingram looked very good
- the Gators O-Line looked good, pretty much handled Cody
- Riley has potential as a 3rd WR in the NFL
- Dunlap was sorrily missed by Florida

How did the game finish? I saw three quarters then the recording stopped for some reason. Also, is Ingram entering the draft this year and if he is, where is he projected?

Didn't see the game. But I have some questions:

1. How did Maurkice Pouncey do against Mount Cody? That was one of the most interesting matchups in the game for me. You mention that the "Gators O-Line looked good, pretty much handled Cody" so I assume he did well, but any details would be welcome.

2. How did Joe Haden fare against Julio Jones? That was the other really interesting matchup of the game for me.

From what I gather, McClain further cemented his status as a top 15 pick.

Ingram's a true sophomore and not draft eligible. At this early stage I think he's considered a likely 1st round pick, but I'm not certain.

Haden pretty much shadowed Jones everywhere he went. He had one nice pass break up where he stayed right with Jones out of a cut and then jumped in front of him to knock the ball away. Very impressive play by Haden from what I saw. He held Jones to 2 rec for 28 yards.

Yeah, Haden looked every bit a mid or higher #1. We are unlikely to have a shot at him but with such a deep draft I'm going to be careful saying that too much.

Not sure I agree on Cody, the Gators didn't run up the middle that much but he was fairly dominant when they did. He also played some DT as Saban played more 4-3 than usual.

McClain showed his size, speed, strength combo, being able to get out to Tebow on the edges and bring him down. Again, I doubt we could get him but him and Mayo in the middle would be sick.

McClain was an animal. Showed fantastic range and diagnostic skills. He's the closest thing to Patrick Willis I've seen since he came out, and would be absolutely terrifying next to Mayo in the 3-4. He's going in the top 10 next year sadly.

The Gators showed a lot of respect to Cody and rarely ran up the middle - they simply tried to bounce just about everything to the outside if they did try to run it, but with them being behind early on, they had to pass more. I thought the Pouncey boys did well from what I could see, but then as I said, it was rare the play went in Cody's direction.

Haden's an elite cornerback waiting to happen, reminded me a lot of Darelle Revis. His coverage on Jones was a thing of beauty. Top 15 pick next April, maybe top 10 if he lights up the Combine.

Say what you want about Dunlap, but the Gators missed him badly last night. They got zero pressure on McElroy, and when he began tearing them apart they started leaving running lanes open. I just don;t think that would have happened had he played.

Was very disappointed by Spikes, he seemed to spend a lot of his time being taken for a ride by one of the 'Bama O-linemen. You're no good in a BB defense if you can't stack and shed.

Ingram's the first RB off the board whether he comes out next year or the year after. And he might well win the Heisman after last night.

Pouncey had a lot of help at the times when I was watching him take on Cody. Gotta say that I never really saw him go one on one with him.

Haden kept Julio Jones quiet pretty much all day. Jones had a few catches, but it was mostly Maize and Ingram that tore the Gators defense apart.

On top of this, I am a Gator fan and this game was extremely hard to watch. I don't think the Tide are THAT much better than the Gators (I do think the Gators '08 team was one of the best we've ever had), but it showed how hungry they were. Ingram will win the Heisman because of this and McClain WILL be a top 15 (maybe even a top 10 depending on his pro day and combine numbers) pick.

Great comments. Thanks.

I think Haden is one of the more intriguing prospects in the draft. I'd love to compare film of him vs. Patrick Peterson on Julio Jones (Jones was also largely shut down in the LSU game gaining 29 yards on 3 receptions, except for the big 73 yard screen pass). From what I hear Haden is likely to be one of the stars of the combine, running a sub 4.35 40 with a 40" vertical and 20+ reps of 225. I think he's a potential top 10 pick, but if he somehow fell I would be thrilled to get him and pair him with Butler. The value would be too good to pass up.

I'l be curious to see where McClain goes. I don't expect him to put up Patrick Willis-like numbers at the combine, and ILBs tend to fall. But the film I've seen screems top 15, and borderline top 10.

Your comment about Dunlap's absence is very interesting. The lack of pressure can be deadly to any defense. Dunlap's been maligned a lot this season, but a lot of people seem to think he may have played his "best" game yesterday by virtue of how bad the Florida D did in his absence.

It's impressive how much talent Florida and Alabama have together. You could field an awfully good team between them:

QB - Tebow (though he wasn't the better QB yesterday, and he has pro issues)
RB - Ingram
WR - Jones
TE - Aaron Hernandez
OL - Pouncey, Pouncey, Mike Johnson

DL - Mount Cody, Dunlap, Lawrence Marsh, Brandon Deaderick
OLB - Jermaine Cunningham
ILB - McClain, Spikes
CB - Haden, Kareem Jackson, Janoris Jenkins
S - Major Wright

KR - Javier Arenas

Forgot to mention Major Wright - looked good in coverage and was solid in his run D. Physically he looks more than capable of playing Free Safety in the pro's. He could go second round if he runs a mid/low 4.4

Very nice player.

I don't see that happening since he'll probably be returning to Florida next season.

Mayo, with regards to Dunlap, you could see how dominant the 'Bama O-line was running right, and how little pressure there was from that side. Cunningham was okay on the other side, but the Gators were simply abused on their left.

We simply must have McClain.

My friend, you are too nice. I watched Spikes like his first name was Brenda. Why? Because that's how he played. The moment a man touched him he went walk backwards. He was virtually non existent. Alabama didn't even seem to game plan for him. They just got their big guys to the next level. When ever they succeeded at this, it worked in a big way.

That guy belongs on a team like the Giants. A team that can protect him with a strong front and allow him to flow to the action.

Mr. Rolando McClain, however, stepped up BIG. His performance practically conveyed: This is how men play linebacker.

He was everywhere. He did everything he could. This guy should have a great future. He really is a talent. I doubt we get anywhere near him.

Speaking of distance, the Pouncey brothers kept Mt. Cody far from Tebow. Tebow could step up in the pocket, if necessary, all throughout the game. Those two were able to do everything but allow their team to run on Cody. Few people run on Cody. There is no shame in their performance.

Tebow, on the other hand, should be ashamed. I can understand why he was on the sidelines blubbering and sobbing for almost five minutes: he blew the game. For all the time and space that his line gave him, he could only give them a sub-par performance. His defense may not have been able to do much to slow down Alabama, but he didn't do his part either. He made some bad throws (the goal line interception in particular).

But there's a bright side. I call Mr. Bright Side: Joe Haden. He shut down Julio Jones. You barely heard from him all night because McElroy was too afraid to go near him. That kid is going to be very good. The good news is that McClain's rising stock is going to cause someone to slide in the draft. One person is going to fall. Who knows who that may be, but keep your fingers crossed Patfans. Keep your fingers crossed.

Edit: One person on the Florida Gators team really deserves a shout out: Carlos Dunlap. You sorry, sorry fool. You picked the worst place to do two things that you should never do in a car: drunk and pass out. You cost your team a game. More importantly, you cost your team a championship. Texas is going to get beaten badly. If Nebraska had any offense, they would have beaten them on Saturday.

Some people said that Dunlap's stock should rise because of this. They said that Florida's defense looked uninspiring after loosing Dunlap. But let me ask everyone this: Who's team wouldn't look less than spectacular after receiving terrible news only days before the game? The Pats sure did days before the Superbowl. I can't fault the Gators for trying to play their best without him. Instead, that kids stock should fall. This is because every team should have a gut check moment every time they look at that film. They should fear abandonment because that's what he did: abandon his brothers. He hung them out to dry and they drifted in the wind. I hope every team sees that and remembers that. I just hope it won't be the Patriots that ends up in that position.

I thought he was a senior?

Apologies if not.

Nope. He's a Senior this coming season and hasn't made any mention about coming out in the draft.

My take on the Florida - Alabama Game.

1.) The Alabama O Line and Dline were physically dominant. It did not help the Florida D Line that they were in a 3-3-5 to start the game, and one of the 3 D Line guys was Cunningham, who is terrible against the run. Alabama beat up Florida players all game.

2.) Florida's bread and butter is the FB dive. Their failure to run it almost all game was a testiment to the respect they had for the Alabama DT's, Mount Cody and Chapman. Why do I harp on us needing Cody badly, because he changes what offenses can do.

3.) For a big guy, McClain is incredibly quick and decent in coverage as well as being an exceptional hunter/tackler/bllitzer.

4.) Haden of Florida is the best CB I have seen this year and as a four year starter, has a ton of big game experience.

And finally, last year Alabama spent a ton of emotion and energy into beating Auburn and breaking the losing streak, then they had nothing left for the last two games of the season. (It didn't help that Cody was injured back then.) This year they look to be focused on winning it all. texas is going to need to step it up big time to hang with Bama.
