Charlie says he won't sit out a year in his first exclusive interview since his firing. A few interesting comments:
I'm not rooting against Notre Dame. That's the probelm in the coaching profession. That's why (Bill) Belichick and I are like this (Weis held up fingers together). The reason why Belichick and I are like this is when I left; I wanted him to better than when I was there....We've never been closer because I've stuck by him

and

"I'm going to coach in the NFL next year. I have no idea for who. All those stories that there have been 100 teams that have contacted me; that's a bunch of garbage. First of all I wouldn't talk to anyone until after I was fired...(at this point, Weis' phone rang with Jon Bon Jovi's 'Livin on a Prayer as the ring tone. The call was from Brian Cashman of the New York Yankees). Weis said he'll coach on Sundays but won't make a quick decision until "after the dust settles."

Charlie Weis goes on the record

Charlie would be a good choice OC for a team wanting ti develop a young qb.

I hope he doesn't end up with the Jets.:( I don't want to dislike him.

if he becomes a JET he is selling his Soul to the DEVIL and disrespecting the PATS Organization. BB. The Kraft's and TFB all at the same time.

Huge SLAP in the FACE... if this happens.

On comments from fans on websites:

"When people say things are not based on fact, they are come back to your family. They all come back. As hardened as I am, as many blows as I've taken which we all know, is a very, very large number, I'm still standing...They didn't beat me down. OK, but they beat my wife down, they beat my son down. Hannah doesn't know. Hannah doesn't know she doesn't know. So they didn't beat her down. The pain that Maura went through, the pain that Charlie went through. I'll never forgive them.”

...............

I think Charlie coming back for a few years would be awesome! I hope Kraft opens up the checkbook to get him back.

That's insane ... if we don't have a place for him and the
Jet's wanted him then he should be a Walmart greeter instead?

...............

Huh? He got fired. It happens to most coaches at some time. He walked away from ND with 18 mil. I wish someone would beat me down like that.

He's talking about people personally attacking his wife and kid with abuse. Apparently, his kid was abused in school, and his wife accosted in public.

I don't blame the guy for taking his $18 million AND being unforgiving.

Charlie could consider Miami.

Yes .... :yeahthat:

Huge slap in the face... If this happens.

wtf?????????

I can see the Pats bringing him on as a consultant, similar (although for a different reason) than what the Colts did with Tom Moore this season.

That would allow him to participate in a playoff run without hindering his options. He may be interested in the KC job next season but for now, why not enjoy a playoff run with Brady and Belichick. Its a good fit.

I would love to see Weis AND Crennel bacl with the Patriots in any capacity!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the good old days!

The Dolphins? Not as long as Parcells is there. Tuna may have burried the hatchet with BB, but not with Charlie. And likely never will. Pretty sure its mutual on Charlie's end too.

How soon would Weis be a major contributor? Defenses have changed since he was here. Offensive skill position players have turned over except for Brady/Faulk (did Weis ever coach a healthy Watson on the field?).

I'd love him back in any capacity for next year, and he probably could be a useful limited-impact mentor this year. But I think that's about it.

Your second sentence is the key. When Weis was with the Patriots,

he was not well paid as a coordinator. If Weis had not been hired by Notre

Dame, his agent was planning on getting Weis a job with another NFL team.

Yeah, Parcells and Weis hate each other. Weis hates him for publically stripping him of his play calling duties in 1999 and Parcells hates Weis for siding with Belichick in the whole Belichick to New England matter and even testified against the Jets and Parcells in an arbitration hearing.

The only position I can see Parcells hiring Weis for is to clean the toilets in LandShark Stadium.

Oh for heaven's sake! Charlie Weis should do what's good for Charlie Weis and his family and for whatever team offers him the best opportunity.

That is the issue. The NFL is very different now than it was in 2004. There has been a lot of trends with defenses and the rules that have made things very different. This has become a pass happy league with only one team that runs more than they pass (the Jets). Weis may be able to adapt just fine, but there is no guarantees.

Brady loves the shotgun because it gives him the ability to read the defenses and the rushes. It is hard to argue against the shotgun's success even if you can argue that they over-rely on it this year. Weis hates the shotgun. Brady gave in to Weis because he was still a younger player. Will the former League MVP, future HOF Brady who has had a major impact on the offensive gameplans for years be willing to give up the shotgun? Will Weis realize the value of the shotgun and run it more considering it is becoming the trend in the league?
