Somehow this team went into the Saints game 3rd in offense ppg, 2nd in defense ppg, and yet 24th in red zone offense, 28th in red zone defense. The Saints game obviously changed the ppg numbers, but the red zone figures didn't really change.

Patriots in key NFL stats - Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston
Red zone offense (based on TD percentage)
22nd (23 of 48, 47.9 percent)
Last week: 24th (21 of 44, 47.7 percent)

Red zone defense (based on TD percentage)
27th (15 of 24, 62.5 percent)
Last week: 28th (13 of 20, 65 percent)

Points scored
4th (27.9 per game)
Last week: 3rd (29.0 per game)

Points allowed
7th (18.3 per game)
Last week: 2nd (16.4 per game)

This means that the offensive talent is elite and piles up yards (not surprising), but once we enter the red zone we become the Cleveland Browns. On defense I'm not sure how good the D actually is, but once the opponent enters the red zone we also become the Cleveland Browns.

One way to improve this is when in the red zone to stop using shotgun, and stop playing LB's and corners off the line.

Another thread on the same thing......... seriously maverick?

Red zone is a different issue. You would consider it similar since you take any criticism of the offense specifically as a personal issue for you.

Really, because I am pretty sure all of your arguments come down to the play calling sucks, the Patriots are to predictable and we have a wealth of talent so we should execute no matter what.

The red zone thread is just another reason for you to perpetuate your cut and past jobs.

Well, sometimes when you try to explain concepts to resisters, you need to provide massive amounts of evidence, from all kinds of different angles, until they can't deny it any longer.

In many ways I feel like you are one of those people who thinks the world is less than 6000 years old and can't be convinced otherwise, despite all the evidence.
That's the interesting point about most of your views maverick, because despite the good points you raise in passing at times, your own personal sense of self worth justification clouds your own judgement into thinking anyone who disagrees with something you are saying has their head in the sand or is ignorant.

Now because I know the world is estimated to be roughly 4.5 billion years old, I'll let you carry on with your incorrect assertions.

Moderators. Please stop this moron. How many threads can he have trashing the shotgun?

We get it. maverick doesn't like the shotgun. Granted Maverick doesn't actually understand football. But that doesn't stop him from trying.

I like how a thread about defensive and offensive red zone issues has become hijacked by the shotgun lovers who jump in to blindly defend it at all cost.

Let's get off of offense since some can't stand ANY criticism of it.

Why is the D so bad in the red zone and yet apparently good at limiting points?

Sorry, you post so much mind-nubling stupid stuff that I must have missed the defense stuff. Who cares about these sexy stats anyway.

Isn't it ironic when you post stats, they mean something and when someone else does you call them sexy stats that mean nothing.

Seriously, pick up a book of "Football for Dummies" read it from cover to cover and stop creating threads until you do.

I am concerned with certain stats, yes, not the ones you care about. I call specific stats "sexy stats" because they are meaningless yet you are obsessed by them. Passing yardage is one of them.

Here is an example, your own words in another thread:
They are #1 and #2 in passing. The Pats are 7-4 and the Colts are 11-0. It isn't like either team are struggling. .
The Pats pass for a ton of yards, are near bottom in the league in red zone offense, can't win on the road, and have pathetic 2nd half performances/stats... sounds perfect for Rob0709!!!

By the way, the fact you still won't comment on the defense red zone issues, shows how you just troll this forum only to defend the predictable shotgun offense.

LOL! Points scored are sexy stats that are useless stats. Who ever won a football game by scoring more points than their competition? Thanks for pointing that out. The Pats should stop trying from scoring outside the 20 and stop in the red zone on every play that they can score from outside the 20 so they can work on the red zone offense.

Again, your stats are valid stats to be concerned about, but if you think the fact the Pats are fourth in the league in points scored is a useless stat then you shouldn't be commenting.

You wrote in the other thread that the Pats offense doesn't have any struggles because it leads the league in passing yards, and averages 27 points a game. Despite the fact they have league bottom red zone numbers, horrible 2nd half production, and can't win a road game, you think the offense is fine the way it is, which is ludicrous.

Take out the Bucs and Titans games, and you pretty much have no case, even for the "sexy" stats.

I hope Belichick is logging on to this forum. If he is we are all set for the rest of the year.

Chris Baker should be used in the red zone. He's a sure handed target who has a knack for getting open in the red zone. I think he would definitely help our red zone woes.

Is Baker still on the team?

I think our offensive redzone problems come down to Brady. I know most people wont criticize him, but it seems that HE has been the problem. He has been missing windows, forcing it to Moss, taking sacks/delay of game penalties, making poor decisions, and not pulling the ball down and running when a clear lane to the endzone opens up. Is it possible that the coaching staff are trying to work on it, but Brady hasn't got it going yet? I think it's a combination of Brady, him calling audibles, some bad play-calling, and simple bad luck.

At this point in the season complaining about any possible personnel issues isn't helpful.

What can this team do at this time, to improve this team's red zone defense and offense?

It is just bizarre that this team leads the league in passing yards and is among the bottom 1/5 in red zone offense.

The defense is just confusing to figure out. The talent is there but the unit is less than the sum of its parts somehow.
