He seems to be playing very well this season

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

I say no. Too inconsistant. Plays great one game, invisible the next. And has not come up in the big games yet.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

No way. He might have a pro bowl season once he focuses on making tackles instead of trying to hit people.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

He had an awful game on Monday (who didn't?) and has been quiet the past few weeks. I wouldn't say he's playing at a pro bowl level right now but he's been a good safety the past 2 seasons and made plenty of key plays for the team over that time period.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

He's a starter but not a leader or the brains on defense.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

his knee injury set back his progress..... I disagree that he is having a "Pro-Bowl" year.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

although he clearly has the best nickname on the team with "The Hit-Stick" moniker

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

Meriweather isn't even our best safety this year.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

Atheletic, effective, dilligent, agressive .................... but he's a Cementhead who gets burned by being 25 yards somewhere else.

Possibly, putting him at corner wasn't a bad idea, too late now. Still, he's a good safety when he's just a safety and not a playcaller. Maybe Chung or McGowan can adjust the coverages. Trade Sanders, draft Rolle (and his big brain). Keep looking for another Milloy/Harrison/Reed/Polamalu ......... keep Meriweather as well.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

I love Meriweather, he is one of my favorite players on the Pats, but he isn't having a pro bowl year. I really wanted him in 2007 b/c I'm a big fan of the U and love their aggressive ball hawking safeties. I think Meriweather is going to be an elite safety one day, but he is still working his way there. I liked the idea of him playing corner as well, but I also like him at safety.

The only issue I have with him at the moment is that he misses tackles b/c he likes going for the big shot instead of just wrapping up. I'd like to see him be more of a ballhawk as well, like the Bucs game where he was all over the place. Meriweather, McGowan, and Chung really get you excited for the future. All 3 can lay the wood.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

I don't really know where the whole cementhead thing is coming from - I think he's inexperienced, but there's no evidence that he's stupid.

I voted that it was too early to tell - he's been up and down - if he can consistently perform to the potential he flashes, the sky is the limit.

As for him getting burned monday night, I kind of view him as the Safety version of Asante Samuel - he's a strong hitter, maybe not quite the same ball skills of Asante, and he is capable of making the big play, but he will gamble for it - and sometimes that means he's gonna get burned.

One thing I wish BB/Pees would do is turn him loose on some blitzes on passing downs - whenever he's up near the line of scrimmage, its usually on a run down - he's shown a definite ability to get to the passer on timed blitzes when given the chance - and it could definitely give our pass-rush the shot in the arm that it obviously needs

Overall I think he's an exciting, young safety, and it's going to be great to watch him progress

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

I didn't think much of Meriweather his rookie year, but after that strip-sack against the Seahawks and those clutch INTs last year he became one of my favorite players on the defense. Plus he made several key plays against the Ravens this year that kept us from losing. The last time the Pats were in Miami he iced the game when he picked off Pennington, hopefully there's a similar result on Sunday.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

he has played pretty good this year, but he's best game's and most of he's stats came vs bad team's

the pro bowl spots go to guy's like Troy Polamalu who play there best game when the spot light is on them

and he is not redy to step up in a big game maybe next year he will make it but i like the way he is playing so far

if i had to pick a S from the pats to make the pro bowl it would be Brandon McGowan

PALO will only make Pro-Bowl as a fan favorite.... if he does. He has missed many games due to injury..... Palo is a beast and the best at his position. An injured season however should not determine an "automatic" Pro-Bowl for him. I respect him....... but he has been injured frequently. A Great player no doubt......

You must play..... imo.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

Even if he doesn't make the pro-bowl, he's still outplayed Kerry Rhodes, who according to Jets' fans at the beginning of the season was in the Reed-Polamalu league, lol

well yeah....

but being healthy is key imo.... it means more games played and a greater sample size.

If I had the opportunity to choose a Safety right now it would be Troy P

For a Pro-Bowl candidate, I favor both health and consistency. Troy P..... the best at his position has been overwhelmed w/ injuries and has played less than other candidates for a Pro-Bowl nomination.

Based on this FACT..... I cannot nominate him for a PB even though he is a great player.

Brandon Meriweather is. I just don't know any player named Merriweather.

(Hey, if he's really a Pro Bowler, you should at least be able to spell his name correctly! ;))

People are just too anxious to see him become an Ed Reed or Troy Polamalou type. I think it's a little premature and is just going to end up with people feeling like he wasn't as good as he could have been when it was really their expectations were too high.

I think he'll end up being somewhere between a decent starting safety and Rodney Harrison circa 2004 at best.
