Brady's 1st Pick

It was 7-3 Pats with the ball driving for another score. Pats just held them to a FG. Momentum was clearly on Pats side. When Brady threw that pick going for a possible 14-3 or 10-3 lead I believe that was HUGE. I know there was a whole football game left but we eat up more clock get a score it changes scenarios, feel, mindset. Saints come down and score, momentum switches we never get it back. Pats play uphill rest of the game. Thoughts?

When Brady throws on the run, he becomes a subpar passer. That being said, Moss seemed to alter his angle during mid throw which lead to the pick....a big momentum killer

This was a timing throw but the DT just pushed the pocket double teamed.

a 3 man rush yet lossing the throwing lane he ran around but the timing was off.

The Saints kicked our butts last night, so it's hard to blame it on one play. Brady's pick didn't blow the coverage and allow Brees to throw for 5 TDs.

However, I thought that the momementum of the game changed dramatically on 3 consecutive plays:

1. Pats D stops Brees on 3rd down with Brees overthrowing Meachem, forcing a punt.

2. Welker returns the punt 41 yards. I thought he was gone, but Roby closed with amazing speed and caught Welker from behind. That saved a touchdown, and was huge. Play of the game, as far as I'm concerned.

3. Brady throws a horrible pick on the next play.

I thought that the Saints looked faster and more aggressive than us the entire game. The Roby play was one example of that.

After Brady threw that pick I texted my friend and told him that pats had not shot of winning. Did that end the game? No. But that pick was a killer.

Also I am not blaming Brady, I just knew after that play the game was not going to be won.

Brady usually makes good decisions. That wasn't one of them. He should have thrown the ball away. If we go up 14-3 the game may have had a different feel.


In general we got out butts kicked and were exposed as a good but not elite team this year.

What I saw as a bad omen is when the saints kicked their first FG and it hit the left post and somehow bounced in.

the pick was horrible and a momentum shift.

i thought Moss caused the pick, or at least he and Brady miscommunicated, because Moss broke off his route. this made the pick look horrendous. might not have been Brady's fault.

The pick was a huge momentum killer. Perhaps I am nit picking but with the success of the running game on the previous drive and an opportunity grind out yards on the ground (which also serves to keep Brees on the sideline, I was stunned to see a pass play called on the first play after Welkers run back. To me they abandoned the run right there. It just made no sense.

Brady's first pick had the same feel as his pick against Denver that Champ ran nearly all the way down the field. If the Pats had gone in and scored on that drive after Welker's excellent punt return, its 14-3 Pats and the crowd is less in the game and the Saints are back on their heels. It would have taken away a big chunk of Saints confidence.

What was up with Meriweather last night? Was it him or Dean Pees? Not only does Meriweather let a Saint receiver run uncovered down the middle of the field, but on the other two touchdown passes at the goal line (super throws by Brees) Wilhite has pretty good coverage but gets no deep safety help. McGowan and Meriweather had one of their worst games together. Let's hope they bounce back.

I, for one, am ready for the Pees DC era to end. I don't think the guy is very good. He doesn't seem to have a good feel for the rhythm of the game. He seems to dial up blitzes at the wrong time and has the coverage go soft at the wrong time.

It absolutely was Brady's fault. Dunno why some people find it so hard to give this guy blame when he deserves it. I fully agree that it shifted the momentum . But it wasnt out of hand until the defense let them score so easily.

I didnt get why pass when you can run, running the ball opens the passing attack!!! Get Weiss back. We need a different approach to gameplanning this offense and Coach Belichick needs help too, he can't be everywhere all game long. He has enough with the defense. One thing is certain, mistakes dont happen twice in this game. Hopefully we start running the ball often, I just hope Maroney holds on to the ball..

I believe JAWS referred to it as Moss drifted while Brady was forced to relocate due to pressure. Tom was throwing to a spot. On the postgame show Zo and DeOssie both said that Moss appeared to be breaking off or rounding off routes and anticipating tackles rather than focusing on catching some balls. They were also critical of his performance on that throw to the goal line where he seemed content to wait for the ball and the closing defender to come to him rather than make a move for it and box out or force defender to alter his angle.

I really hate Moss underneath and across the middle, he's too stiff and easily coralled for any yac, but when they cannot use him deep they try to force the issue. The problems start and end with the OL and their inability to control the LOS consistently. The way this offense is constructed you have to allow Brady time or all his receivers are bunched amid a sea of defenders. Brees had a great post game quote about how for NO it starts and ends with the OL's performance in front of him. When you're getting consistent pressure rushing 3 and 4 it allows a defense to double Moss and Welker, or it takes our TE's out of the passing game, and it exposes weaknesses at the 3 or 4 spot. When we conversely aren't getting consistent pressure rushing 4 and 5 it creates coverage nightmares against a team with multiple receiving weapons, and NO showed last night they have 3 or 4 even when Bush isn't in the game.

That's why calling out coordinators is a fools passtime here. It's lack of talent and erratic execution that kill us. We have almost no margin for error on either side of the ball as presently constructed. Not to mention on ST. If we can't take advantage of limited opportunities like Welker's return... And Dean Pees doesn't call blown coverages, that's on the players (who were apparently jawing and finger pointing on the sidelines) and their position coaches and ultimately their HC.

This game reminded me in some ways of the Giants game. We got some opportunities on offense in that game via of all people Hobbs, but we could make nothing of them. And when we did take advantage of a Giants ST mistake and take the lead the D gave it right back. And that was with Josh at the controls and some veteran pro bowlers on D. And facing a QB who is no Drew Brees...

Brady has made some horrible throws this year, and that was definitely one of them. But we should have never come out in a spread offense in the first place when we are up and having so much success on the ground. Horrible call, worse throw/decision by Brady

Last week against the jets he showed me that he's not the same qb he used to be, carelessly throwing balls to moss when he was being blanketed by Revis he needs to get the hunger back. Even if Moss had continued on that route the ball would have been a good 5-7 yards behind him.

I agree, that play changed the entire tone of the game. The crowd was sitting down and another touchdown would have shut them right up.

Then again our ability to protect leads hasn't exactly been golden. Maybe it was less painful for us this way.

Heh, let's be fair here: in the best season Brady's ever had he constantly was carelessly throwing ball to Moss when he was blanketed, double covered even. It seems to be a combination of Brady not throwing nearly as nicely as he used to, Moss not making the catches that he used to and them just not being as lucky.
