I read this morning a rumor that the sox are talking to the marlins about bringing hanley back to boston....They want a young stud hitter and it would fill a position that we have really lacked in for a while.....Plus he would add some speed and pop as a ss.....They are talking about trading for Lackey (instead of halladay) and then maybe using bucholz and prospects to get hanley.....I would absolutely love this move if we don't have to give up the entire farm for him.....Any other thoughts????

Would love if it happened, but I don't think it will.

Hanley is the best young player in the game, and his contract is a great bargain too.

It would be like trading for A-Rod in his prime, and if A-Rod had a ridiculously cheap contract.

lackey is a free agent. do you mean signing him?

Would love that, but don't really believe it will happen. I could be wrong though.

I heard about this as well, it would be good to have him

I'm sure the Sox are interested in acquiring Ramirez but I have an extremely hard time seeing them pull it off.

A deal for Hanley would deplete the entire farm.

Boston sports fans need something to get excited about today ;)

Would love to see Hanley ... but as a 3rd baseman, 1st baseman or outfielder. If we can add a bat or two then let's bring Iglesias into the fire at SS ... his defense is worth it and the bat we can wait on it ... not like we were getting much hitting from the SS anyways.

Add Hanley to 1st, Holliday to left and move Youk to 3rd. Bring up Iglesias also and let him split time with Lowrie or Tug.

Love to see Hanley come back, but bet the price is going to be too high.. not sure that Theo is that much of a riverboat gambler..

Putting a player like Ramirez at first would be stupidity.

Well he's not really a shortstop either ... that leaves 3rd, 1st and outfield. We have Drew and Jocoby and we're making a run at Holliday apparently. So that leaves 3rd and 1st ... take your pick. I doubt we go after him so I post this hypothetically ... if we're giving up talent it will be for pitching IMO.

Wouldn't Gonzales from SD be a good choice for 1st? Cheaper than Hanley R

How is he really not a SS?

The kid has pretty much been an average defensive ss since his awful 07. That combined with his great offensive skills makes him elite.

He's a SS who will have to move at some point ... this has been projected for a few years now. He doesn't have to move ... the Sox pretty much are banking on Iglesias as the SS of the future. I doubt hanley would come here ... if he did he would eventually not be the SS here.

Yeah he might have to play CF some day but the way he's turned it around it will be a good amount of time.

Those projections were made before he worked on becoming a better defender.

Hanley Ramirez is not going ot be traded anytime soon. He signed a 6 year, $70 million deal last year, that keeps him in Florida thru 2014. The contract is back loaded, and the Marlins finally got a new park approved, that they will be moving into in 2012. So if Hanley gets dealt, it wouldn't likely be until the 2013 season, be it before, or after. The team isn't going to move its franchise, and most marketable player, who's signed to a long term financially friendly contract, just cuz other teams want them to.

As for Ramirez as a SS, his defense has improved significantly over the last few years. Before teams felt he would become a CF at some point, but now they feel he'll remain at short. He made just 10 errors last year and had a .983 fielding percentage.
