Both gone. They're old enough that they could just retire but Groh is another interesting name who Belichick could be interested in. He's one of the annual training camp visitors in addition to the time they've spent on Parcells' staffs together.

Re: Belichickians getting fired (Weis, Groh)

Goes to show you that as hard as it is to get the HC job, it is even harder to hold onto (as this franchise well knows).

Re: Belichickians getting fired (Weis, Groh)

Groh is a great football minded coach, just didn't work out in the Collegiate ranks but put him back in the pros and he has something left to offer a team I am sure.

Re: Belichickians getting fired (Weis, Groh)

Groh would be good for the LB's and I would love to have Weiss and Crennel back.

Re: Belichickians getting fired (Weis, Groh)

Just a few things:

Groh is off the Parcells tree, not Belichick.

Weis isn't that old. He is rich enough to retire, but he is only 53. He is younger than Belichick and probably hopes to be a head coach again within the next two to three years.

Re: Belichickians getting fired (Weis, Groh)

I like what Scott O'Brien has done over the past few weeks (mixing the run in more, helping TB get more comfortable) and think in the end, he'll be a fine o-coordinator. Pees is experienced enough to do the job. I still think he is gone after this year to pursue a HC job. Maybe Groh or RAC are the answers??

My concern is come playoff-time the offensive playcalling. Will the inexperience show up in the playcalling? Thats where a Weis helps.

Just wondering, what makes you think Pees will probably be gone after this season?

Put me in as one of the guys who wouldn't mind seeing Groh coaching the linebackers.

In XXXVI the ONLY offensive TD came on a Brady to Patten play called by...BB. During THE DRIVE the kid was on his own in no huddle with the only admonition from BB via Charlie to go for it but be careful out there.

We won the other two by 3 points too. Carolina game we couldn't score to save our souls for most of the first half. Then both teams defenses couldn't stop a sneeze in the second...

Some players, including role players, made some incredible plays along the way. The effect of playcalling is overstated in most cases, particularly here. Execution is the great equalizer. When playmakers make plays teams win.

He's still a Belichick guy, he knows the defense well. It doesn't matter what "tree" he's from, they're all from the Parcells tree.

If you have millions in the bank, 53 is old enough to retire - I know I would :) Seriously, with his physical condition and his daughter's situation I could see him becoming a full time dad.

I like what Scott O'Brien has done over the past few weeks
That's Bill (or Billy as Belichick seems to call him). Scott has issues with his punt team's protection ;)

I have no concrete evidence to support my hunch Kontra except seeing this team operate from a PR standpoint over the last few years makes me speculate. To me, if a particular coach or exec in the Pats organization expresses to BB their desire to move up/on, in the year or two prior to their departure, they give weekly press conferences or are made more available to the media. It seemed that way with Weis and Crennel in 2003/2004, Pioli last year and the year prior and McD all last year and Brad Seely last year to an extent as well. Obviously, BBs intent is to help raise their visibility and give them experience dealing with the media (and how they deal with the media- which is very important) which is important to owners as the HC represents the face of the franchise so to speak.

Now Pees, who IMO is not head-coaching material (lifetime coordinator, position coach mostly in college) contract I think it up after this year and may be simply wanting to move on.

At any rate, it's good to know that there are highly-experienced coaches out there who know the system and can work with BB. I like Groh too.

Yep. BB hired Groh in CLE. They are collegues and friends...

Good points on those issues.

Arrrr. My bad. Thanks!

Re: Belichickians getting fired (Weis, Groh)

I think it's interesting that some of these guys are all going to be available at the same time.. Weiss / Groh / Crennell etc.. It would not surprise me to see a reunion in some sort soon.

Re: Belichickians getting fired (Weis, Groh)

Weis and Groh together would be a mini-dream team of Coordinators:)

but..... it will be nearly impossible to change them this far into the season:(

Re: Belichickians getting fired (Weis, Groh)

Hearing rumors about Weis coming here as a "consultant."

IIRC, you had some inside info on Mark Briggs last week, so I'm inclined to believe you on this one.

It's Bill O'Brien who is the QBs coach. Scott O'Brien is the new STs coach.

I wouldn't want Crennel back. He's a good coordinator, but he wanted to stay in cleveland after he was fired to work with Fredo. So he was loyal to either the team that fired him or mangina. No thanks.
