On a evening where Brady takes over as the Patriots career passing yards leader from Bledsoe when he passes for more than 163 yards this evening (29,657 currently held by Drew) , I want to express my utmost respect to Drew who was my favorite sports figure in the late 90s and I am sure it is going to be an honor for Tom to overthrow Drew as Patriots all-time passing leader in yardage this evening....It would take a monstrous defensive effort from the Saints to stop Brady from reaching this milestone that at one time no one ever thought would be surpassed for the forseeable future while it was back a decade ago.

Lets remember what Drew did for this organization from taking us from the laughing stock of the league in 1990 to a Super Bowl appearance just 6 years later.

I also want to send my congratulations to Tom for achieving this incredible feat in a pretty short period of time despite not having HOF WRs in his early career like Peyton has had his whole career.

Not to mention I think Tom has a legitimate chance to reach 30,000 yards next week and what an exciting time it would be for the Patriots organization to not only win an important game but for Tom to break some records and reach the 30,000 plateau against rival Miami.

With that being said,LETS GO PATS AND KNOCK OFF THEM SAINTS!!

Drew helped bring this franchise (along with Parcells and Kraft) a respectability few thought possible. Belichick and Brady took it to the next level and cemented our place among the great franchises in the league, but it all started with Drew, a guy who I will always have the utmost respect for. You shouldn't lose your job to injury, but Drew lost his to a guy who when all is said and done will be viewed as a top 5 QB all time, no shame in that.

I'll always have a soft spot for Drew.

I started following football when he was drafted by the Pats. Sure, he was frustrating at times but he knew how to sling it.

I hope that Drew is at the game tonight,That would be utter cool to see.

I know there is a contingent of people on this board who hates Bledsoe, but the guy did lead the Pats to a Super Bowl and did give us some entertaining years. He never lived up to his "Next Dan Marino" moniker that some people gave him early in his career, but he was a good QB who won the Pats a lot of games and helped to turn this franchise from a joke to one of the better teams in the league the last two decades.

Slow guy with a rocket arm and lost his only Super Bowl start, I'd say that's Marino :D. In Drew's defense, at least he has a ring.

Looking back, I'd say he was pretty important to that first SB win, as well.

I can guarantee that those who hate Bledsoe or disrespect him now where the same guys that wore shirts in 1996 with #11 on them,Had authentic Bledsoe jerseys that they proudly wore in the late 90s and had Bledsoe memorabilia all over their house a decade ago...there are a lot of hypocrites in every fan base, just look at the disrespect Favre has now in Green Bay - its very similar to what Drew is to some fans now and its really sad.

When you look back at the 1996 Super Bowl you realize that if it were not for the efforts of Desmond Howard, Drew may have been loved a lot more.

Great thread, timing, and respect paid.

When one thinks about how long Brady has been with the Pats in order to finally surpass Bledsoe's passing yardage, it really shows just how great Drew was while he was here. Obviously he had some more flaws compared to Brady, but he built this franchise, was its face for a long time, and did as much for the team as anybody.

Ditto this. And count me as one of the people who will ALWAYS love Drew and will always remember what he did for this franchise. People are too quick to forget that he made the Patriots relevant before Tommy made the Patriots legendary. Why can't we just love them both?

13 years and 3 Superbowl wins later, I still hate Desmond Howard.

I grew up with the pats in the bledsoe era and loved drew.....I still have my bledsoe jersey that i wore in middle school and I am keeping it until I have a boy and he can wear it as a throw back when he is old enough.....

Look at what he did after Brady was hurt in the AFC Championship Game that year...without him they may not have won that game.

I sadly lost my old Drew jersey, I still remember going into Marshalls as a wee lad with my grandmother and begging her to pony up the 35 bucks for the jersey.

My wife bought me a Wilson Authentic Bledsoe Jersey in 2000 for our first wedding anniversary and I still proudly have it hanging in my wardrobe closet.

My Bledsoe jersey is in my closet as well (along with Brady's of course :))

He did a lot of things for this franchise and it might not be fair to him to compare him to one of the best QB's to ever play.

It's not one with soccer stripes, is it? It may not come back as a throwback, I'm guessing.

The only other 1-2 QB combo in one year with this much talent in NFL History was Montana and Young,Brady and Bledsoe were as good of a 1-2 QB depth as there ever was back in 2001 with the exception of the two 49ers.

Drew was the man back then.. class act and stand-up guy. He lead some great games and come-backs back in the day. Coates, T-Glenn, Jefferson.. ahh the memories. Remember when Jefferson (i think) caught that ball laying flat on his back?
