Is this the night Burgess breaks out and terrorizes Brees, either hurrying, hitting, or sacking him? How does he match up with the Saints RT?

The Saints O-Line is strong in the middle. That tackles are beatable, but there's not a ton of time vs. Brees.

That said, I do think Burgess is getting better every game, likely because he's getting all his other new duties down better. Watch for old-school Derrick Burgess coming in and eating Drew's lunch all night long.

He certainly figures to be part of the game plan, on a fast track like the Super Dome. He'll certainly have the stage on which to perform.

As you say, he has been getting better. I'd be content with some good pressure, forcing Brees to hurry some throws and make mistakes. Though I'm hoping Patrick Chung does a reprise of his Chad Henne hit.

I'm going to say no. Burgess hasn't shown much this year and has been pretty average. He hasn't even had a game where you can give him a game ball. You'd like to see the guy get better as the season goes on, but probably not this game. Brees gets rid of the ball so fast. He is one of the least sacked QBs in the league.

I feel like any sacks we get in this game are going to be coverage sacks... but with the Saints receivers that's not terribly likely either. This reeks of a frustrating game, where a few plays is going to make the difference.

As I mentioned above, I think pressure would be as good as sacks in many ways. Hurry Brees and he will make mistakes. We have the playmakers to take advantage of those mistakes.

To answer the thread's question: Don't bet on it.

After playing invisible man in his year here, why all of a sudden would he turn on the gas and become a force?

He is what he is and that is an average LB at this time in his career and to think he suddenly would become a monster against a team with a very solid front line is either being a dreamer or just plain dumb.

Junior Seau would have a better chance to be a force than Burgess in this game should he play.

Burgess had a good game against the colts. we just did not have the double edge rusher which hurt us a bit.

I think his thing is speed and that turf gives the edge to his type of rushers.

saints O line is one of the best in the NFL i dont think any of the pats rusher's will get to brees a whole lot tonight

Burgess' line tonight- 2 sacks, 1 FF, 3 hurries.

Go Pats!

I certainly hope so. Because if he does, that bodes really well for the rest of the defense.

They HAVE to get pressure tonight. We already know what happens when you try to sit back and cover good receivers for 5+ seconds. If we are going to go down, I want to go down swinging, not sitting on my butt watching Brees carve us up. Who's with me? TUH-LEE! TUH-LEE! TUH-LEE!

I see BB going w/ a bigger front 4 and I think Burgess will be used less than normal.. I think they are going to put an emphasis on stopping the run w/the front 4 and Mayo / Guyton

I think just the opposite. Vince and Ty can hold the middle. Then put in speed and challenge them to run. Make them do what they do not want to do--beat us with the run. I know Brees can beat us, I don't know that about those RBs.

The Saints have a strong Interior .. I think we are going to need our Big Guys in there on the first two downs.. but I dont think it will be a mirror of the Colts game.. in terms of challenging them to run..

Yep. They need to generate pressure with 4-5 guys. Let 'em run the ball. The lower the scoring the better. I think?
