Sox Pursuing Halladay

I don't see this happening ... perhaps it's just posturing? He's in our division so to get him we will have to overpay ... I don't see it but what do I know?

Or bluff to drive the price up for somebody else........

This is what I'm thinking ... Hallady is great and has been great but he has a lot of innings in that arm ... I'd be nervous giving up the farm for him. I would give up a bit more if i could get Felix though.

Where's Theo having Thanksgiving dinner? I hope he's in Toronto. A Halladay - Daisuke - Lester - Beckett - Wakefield rotation would be sweet.

My response on main page is response to Sox fan wringing his hands about Kelly and Buchholz being moved:

A party hearty stick of a pitcher who'll be done by age 31 and a phenom pitcher (he's not so hot at SS) in A ball is too much for the best pitcher of the last decade?

I cannot agree in any way. Do the deal. (I mean sure, trade Kalish, Pimental, and Fife instead if you can, but I doubt they would take that).

Doc is 18-6 lifetime against the Skanks..... for a generally average Toronto team.

Last years Sox scored more runs then '07. Last years pitching did worse relative to expectations as a group then the hitters IMO.

Also we can't make enough moves to match the Yanks hitting, but we can make enough moves to have this rotation:

Doc
Lester
Beckett
Dice-K
Harden or Sheets, etc./Wakefield

Be afraid, be very afraid of that rotation. Four guys easily capable of 130+ or better ERA's next year. You could bat Pedroia clean-up and win most of your games with that.

I'm sick of driving up the price for others. The Red Sox are financial strong, with a great fan base and can afford to go after big market commodities to improve the team. I want to compete with and beat the Yankees who now have that belief back. What a better way to start than acquiring Roy Halladay.

I agree. Halladay is one of the best pitchers in the MLB and you would be kidding yourself if you believe otherwise. The Red Sox have the financial assets to acquire him. If it's possible, they should definitely do it.

My problem with Halladay is that he has pitched 2032 in the last 11 seasons. Just for a comparison Josh Beckett has pitched 1377 in the last 8 seasons. I exclude both their initial seasons wehre they pitched 14 and 24 innings respectively. That is a ton of innings.

He is currently ranked 18th in that category.

There are a few ahead of him still pitching well ... I just have an uneasy feeling about it ... he's been durable and lucky in terms of health. How many times a guy gets traded and it all changes scares me ... but I'm not Theo for a reason.

don't think Halladay ends up with either AL East team. The Yankees are in on the conversation, and apparently the Jays want two out of the Hughes, Chamberlain, Montero, Jackson group in any package. I think that's too steep a price to pay for a guy who's 33, a year away from free agency, and likely to demand an extension in the 4-5 year, $80-100 million dollar range. Halladay is arguably the best pitcher in the league, but if they want 2 players like that, plus some added icing, that's too steep. If the Sox trade for him, would they extend him with Beckett also a FA at the end of the season? My guess is it would have to be one or the other no? I think both teams would be content with the other not getting him, so they don't have to try. My guess is Doc ends up with the Phillies, Rangers, Angels, or Dodgers. Unless of course the price comes down.
