Here to give Maroney props

Then why was he starting before those guys got hurt? Hrm?

LOL. maybe that's also why both Morris and Taylor we're given most of the carries in clutch game situations before they got hurt, even on first down.
BB: "Yeah Lawrence, don't worry, you're still the man--you're going to be in there on the first two series of every game."

Proving once again that, no matter what Maroney does, some people here will never, ever give him any credit.

Except when Morris was healthy, Maroney was starting over him. When Taylor was healthy, he and Maroney split carries. Belichick consistently praises Maroney.

When has BB ever been critical of a player on his team in public?

Nice way to avoid the other 2 facts in the comment you responded too ;)

That's not a very good way of evaluating things, since you're not in any way taking into account style of offense, strength of schedule, etc. etc. Since I gave up on convincing any of your crowd ot even try to do things rationally, though, I'll point out a couple of teams where you can make a pretty strong case for Maroney as a starter this year:

Arizona
Chicago
Detroit
Houston
Indianapolis
Oakland
Seattle

What?

No way he is better than Forte, Addai, Kevin Smith or Slaton.

If it was my choice I would rather have McFadden or Chris Wells, or Tim Hightower.

Maybe he is as good as Julius Jones / Forsett in Seattle, pretty much a tie.

That makes him a starter on 4-6 teams, all pretty much the worst teams in the league. He is a backup on pretty much all NFL teams. Sounds like a JAG to me.

Maroney is a victim of first round pick expectations. If he was an undrafted free agent pick up like BJGE, people would want to errect statues for him right now.

You're going to play Maroney over Matt Forte or Steve Slaton? You're welcome to join our FF league next year if there is an open slot. :)

He isn't bad at all. He is better than BJGE. You can't be bad and be in the NFL for 4 yrs but he seems to have a problem finding holes and hitting them. I think he has the speed to run to the outside/off the OT but he doesn't do that enough IMO.

He's a better running back than Forte or Slaton. Why on Earth wouldn't you start him over them?

I love the Slaton adoration, though, especially with his coach openly criticizing him. Maroney has 3 career fumbles, with 2 of them coming in the past 2 games. Slaton has already gotten into double digits in fumbles.

I too am waiting for Maroney to bounce it outside and get that stiff arm going again. I'm just grateful that there is a Maroney thread that is less than 10 pages that I can weigh in on - :deadhorse:

I unfortunately didn't get to see him run yesterday and there have been very few highlights except for the TD runs, but from the radio broadcast I could not have been happier for the guy. He's been getting a lot of flack, much of it justified, and you can tell he's been trying to run harder this year. It sounds like he still hesitates on some plays, and he will never have the vision or natural instincts that you'd like a first round RB to have, but he's running hard and thats all you can ask ... except that he hold on to the damn ball in the red zone.

But nothing, absolutely nothing, pleases me more as a football fan than a RB running over a defensive player. A Jets player. Kerry Rhodes no less. Maroney gets at least a two game pass from me for that play alone.

Hey Kerry, were you "embarrassed" after that play? Sucker.

Which is fair. If i pay $100 for something that works like its $50, I won't be too happy. You don't draft an RB that gets almost 1/3 of the load with your first round pick.

Laurence Maroney stats (rushing) through this year:

116 carries, 455 yards, 3.9 YPC, 6 TDs

Steve Slaton stats (rushing):

116 carries, 359 yards, 3.1 YPC, 3 TDs

Matt Forte stats (rushing):

157 carries, 516 yards, 3.3 YPC, 3 TDs

But way to use Fantasy Football as your crutch to prove who is better this season.

Where there is smoke there is fire. A lot of us complained about Hobbs and he was traded even though BB had never said anything bad about him. Our eyes are not lying. We complained about Sanders and he got replaced by someone some didn't expect to make the team. If Seymour was worth the money he was being paid, he would NOT have been traded. AD got benched around the time a lot of us realized he was becoming a non factor.. Even the commentators say the same thing about Maroney and they give him props when he deserves it. Don't tell us we are not coaches. Maroney is not bad but he is not what we expected and we will upgrade if he doesn't step up.

Your eyes aren't lying? Well, let's just say that they are clearly "misstating the facts".

If it was just me then I might agree with you.

I cheered for Laurence more than a few times in the game yesterday. In fact, besides Brady and Welker, Maroney and Edelman were clearly working hardest to win that game. Both of them had a play or two where they got yards that not only didn't seem to be there, but got them for important first downs.

We needed that yesterday, because for as well as Brady and Welker were playing, one or two missed 3rd downs in the red zone and that could have been a very different game. Only being up 10 points on Sanchez after 4 turnovers (before Meriweather's game-sealer) was exactly the position I didn't want to see this team in after some very poor 2nd halves this year.

I hope Laurence gets a deal to stay with the team. No matter what anyone says about him, he is a true Patriot and always puts forth the effort.

A lot of the posters here thought Cassel needed to be cut last season. When you follow the mob, you follow idiots, generally with predictable results.

To be fair, there is a recent quote from Belichick about Matt Cassel that makes it sound like he was much closer to the chopping block than we would have believed. He was very clear that his performances in the preseason games were not good at all and did not make him comfortable about going through a season without Brady.

Belichick makes it seem like was honestly as surprised as the rest of us when Cassel managed to become a relatively good player.

What did I say that led you to believe i am following? And as Tobias said BB wasn't impressed with Cassel. We ended up running our offense based on Cassel's strengths. Cassel isn't as good as we think anyways.

Tobias is taking Belichick's comments and reading into them. And you are the one who was pointing to "A lot of us complained", not me. The anti-Maroney arguments have mostly been idiotic, and that's putting it kindly. The few people who've put forth rational anti-Maroney arguments and have been willing to concede points on the other side have generally been treated with respect.

ok???.....Respect on a forum is irrelevant to me as long as I am principled.
