A lot of you have pegged me a "Maroney-hater", and while I think "hate" is a really strong word, I have no problem owning up to the fact that I am not a big fan of this kid.

That said, if I am willing to come on this board and slam him whne he sucks, I will also man-up and come on and give him props when he plays well.

And yesterday, against a pretty good run defense, he played well. He ran hard, put his head down and crashed piles, and generally looked confident, even after his early fumble, which is a good sign.

He got his YPC up from 2.4 vs. the Colts to 3.5 vs. the Jets. And the TDs yesterday were sweet. My favorite run, though, was the 9-yard run when he almost scored just before his second TD. He busted through a linebacker and a couple of secondary players. Good, hard-nosed running!

I pray that we see more of this Laurence Maroney down the stretch because we're going to need him, especially since Fred Taylor & Sammy Morris can't really be counted on right now.

I am hoping those two will be ready for the playoffs. They're getting planty of rest and rehab time, that's for sure.

Finally, I just gotta say this:

WES FORKING WELKER!

All my buddies down in South Florida must be kicking themselves for letting that kid go! JEESUZ!

Well said ,Armen.Maroney played well yesterday.Somewhat curious as to why they dont use him as a reciever more often,he is dangerous when he gets a little room...

The end of the world must be at hand. :singing:

While his stats weren't that great, I saw him stick his nose in there and run downhill for the first time in what seemed like forever.

Promise, last time I will ever comment about Maroney. If he was a 4th round pick then most people would be happy with the production. Unfortuntately for him he was drafted in the first round and know has to perform to that level of expectations.

I watch him and think, does he do anything that any other RB can't do? Is he stronger?faster? have better hands? block better? read blocking better?

Not really, he is an average NFL running back. Dime a dozen. Looking quickly at NFL Rosters, the only teams that I think he would be the starter are:
  • Cleveland
  • KC
  • Tampa

So, below average starter, average RB overall.

That's not a very good way of evaluating things, since you're not in any way taking into account style of offense, strength of schedule, etc. etc. Since I gave up on convincing any of your crowd ot even try to do things rationally, though, I'll point out a couple of teams where you can make a pretty strong case for Maroney as a starter this year:

Arizona
Chicago
Detroit
Houston
Indianapolis
Oakland
Seattle

The only reason Maroney is starting is because the two guys ahead of him on the depth chart are hurt. That should tell you all you need to know about the team's confidence in him.

Except when Morris was healthy, Maroney was starting over him. When Taylor was healthy, he and Maroney split carries. Belichick consistently praises Maroney.

Then why was he starting before those guys got hurt? Hrm?

When has BB ever been critical of a player on his team in public?

This sums up Maroney perfectly. We seem to get excited when he seems to have a somewhat decent game, when 7th round picks like Ahmad Bradshaw do that regularly. I agree with this 100%. I loved the run when he steamrolled Rhodes, but two 1 yard touchdowns, and Maroney acts like he's a scoring machine. The announcers were saying he has scored in 5 straight games, like it was amazing or something, but most of the TD's were when the passing game got them to the 1 yard line. Maroney has impressed me in a grand total of 5 or 6 games in his 4 year career. He's a huge disappointment.

So much for giving him props.. looks like the argument is starting up again.

He did alright he still fumbled .He dances to much in the back field sometimes thats ok but he ODs with it .

22CAR 77YRDS 2TDs 3.5AVG 14LNG 1FUM

I did see him get lose and run a saftey over and that i liked maybe he start running like his college teammate marion barber. They have the same style its just barber has made that right desions in the clutch

There is no argument. I think people on both sides of the issue can agree that Maroney has not lived up to his selection in the first round. If he were drafted in a lower round, people wouldn't be so worked up about it.

3.5 YPC for 77 yards and some in here are getting hard-ons ...not quite ready to crown him an all-pro based on an above average and decent but Far from great performance yesterday.

Show me similar performances weeks in a row, then get back to me :snob:

ahahahaha funny now stats are useful for you guys now. But Maroney's 4+ YPC career average is meaningless and stats lie.

He calls out players from time to time. Considering Adalius Thomas was a healthy scratch and when asked why he said he dresses the players he feels give him the best shot to win the game, I would say he has been critical of players even if he doesn't get into details. He doesn't talk up players he is disapointed in usually though.
