What the tie breaker for us, CIN and SD? So far, we all have the same conference record (5-3).

though its early yet, but we have the edge on the second seed.. common opponets is the next tie breaker.. San Diego lost to Balt.. We beat Balt... Cincy lost to texans, we play the texans...

It's division that counts, not conference.

Cin is 5-0 in div, so unless they lose more games, they have the advantage.

I was thinking about this too, but SD beat Denver who we lost to. If we beat the Texans, we should have it over Cincy, but what if both teams have lost to an equal amount of common opponents?

Unlikely. Their last game is against the Browns.

Does division matter when it comes to CONFERENCE standings?

Does division matter when it comes to CONFERENCE standings?

The six postseason participants from each conference are seeded as follows:

The division champion with the best record.
The division champion with the second-best record.
The division champion with the third-best record.
The division champion with the fourth-best record.
The Wild Card club with the best record.
The Wild Card club with the second-best record.

Conference standing is only the 4th determinant.

Okay, that says nothing about what were talking about.

CIN plays SD later this year.................

CIN also plays MINN

CIN last division game is the Browns ... sooo..... that would mean 6-0.

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs

Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in common games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss
Three or More Clubs

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated during any step, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of the two-club format).

Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games among the clubs).
Coin toss

Would you replace all the bold divisions with CONFERENCE when you are trying to figure a CONFERENCE tie-breaker? or is still just Division record anyway?

Okay, that says nothing about what were talking about.

Conference standing is only taken into consideration after head to head record, division, and common games.

Confusion! WTF is the tiebreaker please :)

Conference standing is only taken into consideration after head to head record, division, and common games.

Not for division winners... that is only to determine the division winner.

Actually, it says that to determine home-field priority among division titlists, apply Wild-Card tie breakers. Under wild card tie breakers, it says best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference, then best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.

Therefore, NE has the #2 seed at the moment, and the seedings are not division-related.

It's division that counts, not conference.

Cin is 5-0 in div, so unless they lose more games, they have the advantage.

You sure about that, Psycho?

I thought division only mattered in the division. From what I understood it goes conference record, then common opponents--but I certainly could be wrong.

EDIT: sorry, other posters have already answered in the time it took for this post to clear

As these games go on next few weeks Playoff senarios will change often. There no lock in wins. Steelers lost to KC ben got hurt you would think that was a win for steelers.

I think you are wrong.

Two Clubs
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory.
5. Strength of schedule.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.

Three or More Clubs
(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)
1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the three Wild-Card participants.
2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in conference games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss.

3. To determine home-field priority among division titlists, apply Wild-Card tie breakers.
