Did Brady call out the defense with this quote?

Bottom line is, the drive previous, the Colts went something like 70+ yards in 1:40 without using a timeout. I'd take my chances on the O converting a 4-2 than giving it back to the D at that point. Manning was HOT.

Yeah he did. But it wasn't that bad. They'll get over it. Who he really should have been calling out was Pees who, for whatever reason, thought a soft zone was the way to go against Manning when an aggressive D was the one that had been slowing him down.

Honestly, did Jessica spend all week developing this premise...or searching for a quote she convinced herself fit it? Out of context it's hard to say what he was talking about. Maybe he was indicating the pass play to Faulk was a better option than running BJGE...or fielding a defense at that point studded with backup D linemen due to mounting in game injuries...

Keep telling yourself that when it was Bill's decision to do so as always. I don't like the approach any more than anyone else here but Bill continues to employ it in part because his DL can't get sufficient pressure, let alone when they're down a handful of starters and first line backups.

Not sure on that front, but I personally hope that Revis starts talking a lot more to get our minds off of the Colts. I'm so sick of talking about that game.

Bill gives a ton of leeway to Pees and his other coordinators to make decisions. I have full faith that was Pees. And if he did it because his DL "can't get sufficient pressure" then why in the WORLD would he call a defense that only saw a four man rush... from the D-Line? Wouldn't you think that he would call more blitzes which featured Mayo going right up the A-Gap? Please explain your post a little bit more as that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me.

I did not hear Brady's entire press conference. The quote seems very out of character for Brady.

This is how I heard it . . . basicaly give it to your best players in the stretch to make one play to win the game (Brady-Faulk combo or Allen) or give it to different players (BJGE or 7th man on the bench) . . from what i remember at that time duirng the conversation they were talking about the offensive options for the 4th & 2 as opposed to the decesion whether to go for it or not . . .

Here's the quote exactly:

"If you're taking a 3-pointer at the end of the game, do you give it to Ray Allen or do you give it to the seventh man coming off the bench? You've got to give it to the guy who you think is going to make the shot."

We can read that in several ways, but I'm going with the read that says he's calling out the D. And, it's hard to disagree with doing that, given the ease with which Peyton took the Colts down the field on previous possessions.

Of course, if Peyton said something like that, I'd be all over him for throwing the D under the bus. But, I have to say, it's the way a leader talks.

Brady's already in Canton. He's earned the right to call it like he sees it. If the Pat's D doesn't like it, they ought to stuff it right down the Jets throats this Sunday, make a big time statement against Drew Brees in 10 days and then take care of business when the game is on the line against the Colts, Steelers or whomever in January.

Otherwise, with Mayo's example, the D is doing exactly the right thing and keeping quiet this week, other than to support BB.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Belichick's decision on Sunday will be what puts us in the SB if we get there.

We been doing bend but don't break forever, Kontra. I know you were in grammer school for some of that, but if you don't believe me watch the old games. Fans here didn't like it even then, complained all the time about all then yahdssssss we were giving up. Difference then was we had some playmakers in their primes who could stop or limit opponents on a short field inside the red zone. We haven't truly had enough of those since 2005 when Law had to go feed his ego and Rodney and Tedy had injuries rapidly diminish their ongoing capacity and Willie chose $$ over more jewelry while TJ opted to try and save what was left of his brain, and that left too little playmaking talent for the few remaining playmakers to work off of. Bill attempted to patch and paste with guys like Colvin and AD and Junior but their injuries as well as others (like Seymour's) and some miscalculations resulted in those patches not quite working.

That is why Bill is fairly fully transitioning this defense as we speak, but it isn't at that level...yet. Had we not been facing the absence of players on DL down the stretch in that game maybe we continue to press and play man. But with Manning running no huddle you also lose the opportunity to substute on defense and guys the size of Wilfork get gassed. Had Bill wanted them to continue to pressure Manning, they would have. He's the boss on both sides of the ball. Nothing happens here that he hasn't signed off on. Never been any different no matter who the coordinators were.

Look at That Brady, throwing his entire defense Under the bus

If this quote came from Peyton we'd have to listen to you Pat fans rant for years

Mountains out of mole hills here.

Brady is saying "I'm the man! I'll take of it!" I see no problem with this. The Patriots live or die with Brady. He's just stating the obvious.

Wrong, troll.

That's just what some idiot media babe cobbling together a quotes piece assumed and the kneejerks here accepted.

Tom was asked about the playcalling selection and the decision not to run it on 3rd and 4th down. His comment was you want your best players handling the ball in that situation and that's your passing offense...

11 minute mark if you want to listen yourself.

I know full well that we've been playing the bend-but-don't-break for a while. And if you check my post history, you can see that I've never usually badmouthed that strategy. I've actually defended the likes of Pees on here for a while. However, in this game, the pressure defense was working on Manning through three quarters. I buy that maybe Wilfork was gassed (given his size) but I don't buy for a second that the entire defense was gassed. If that's the case, practice should be made a lot harder to give these guys better stamina because there wouldn't be any excuse for that given the fact that the Pats dominated TOP. I have to believe that there was another factor besides the D-Line being "gassed" that went into play a soft zone in the 4th quarter. My opinion? They were trying to stop Manning and his receivers from generating big time plays over the top. If that's the case, then whomever called that defense should be slapped in the face because we've seen time and time again that that style of defense simply isn't effective against Manning. He will eat it alive. We had a good thing going through three quarters and we completely abandoned it. What happened when we did? 14 straight points in the 4th quarter and a Colts win.

To sum it up, I'm not sure why we would be calling a four man rush (which, with us, is usually ineffective) if the defensive line was really that tired. The attempt to keep Manning from going up top is noble, however good quarterbacks like Brady and Manning have demonstrated time and time again that they can beat that zone/prevent type of defense and that's exactly what happened. Maybe Bill did sign off on it, maybe he didn't. Given Bill's defensive acumen, I would say that Pees called it and if Bill approved it, he's probably going to be kicking himself for it.

Next time take the time to listen to the quote in context before starting a ? thread rather than jumping aboard with some mediots careless, unfounded spin...

I can't listen to audio at this moment, so are you saying that these words (bottom) did not leave the mouth of TB?? If they did nothing else matters

You Pat fans don't seem to care what the context of Peytons "Protection issues" quote was, You don't seem to care that he was baited into the question and was being asked over and over for some kind of scapegoat. So why does it matter in this case? He compared your defense to the 7th(not even sixth) man coming off the bench who couldn't get it done, clearly threw them all the way under the bus

"If you're taking a 3-pointer at the end of the game, do you give it to Ray Allen or do you give it to the seventh man coming off the bench? You've got to give it to the guy who you think is going to make the shot."

Thanks, I went and listened to the segment and that is exactly what they were discussing, playcalling options on 3rd and 4th and 2 with the game on the line.
