We been doing bend but don't break forever, Kontra. I know you were in grammer school for some of that, but if you don't believe me watch the old games. Fans here didn't like it even then, complained all the time about all then yahdssssss we were giving up. Difference then was we had some playmakers in their primes who could stop or limit opponents on a short field inside the red zone. We haven't truly had enough of those since 2005 when Law had to go feed his ego and Rodney and Tedy had injuries rapidly diminish their ongoing capacity and Willie chose $$ over more jewelry while TJ opted to try and save what was left of his brain, and that left too little playmaking talent for the few remaining playmakers to work off of. Bill attempted to patch and paste with guys like Colvin and AD and Junior but their injuries as well as others (like Seymour's) and some miscalculations resulted in those patches not quite working.
That is why Bill is fairly fully transitioning this defense as we speak, but it isn't at that level...yet. Had we not been facing the absence of players on DL down the stretch in that game maybe we continue to press and play man. But with Manning running no huddle you also lose the opportunity to substute on defense and guys the size of Wilfork get gassed. Had Bill wanted them to continue to pressure Manning, they would have. He's the boss on both sides of the ball. Nothing happens here that he hasn't signed off on. Never been any different no matter who the coordinators were.
