Great Comments by Mayo (and a little poke at Bru)

He threw a 1 yard completion on 4th-and-2 with the game of the year on the line while facing an all-out blitz.

Fixed that for ya. Not trying to rub it in but that is the fact. I hate games that come down to referee's calls but it tends to happen alot in the NFL in big games like these. I do not always agree with the referee's decisions but as Bill B says, "it is what it is."

You would know better than most how often it happens, too.

Actually he threw a pass that resulted in a 3 yard reception that was marked as a 1 yard completion because the ref was screened and made a subjective decision on the extent to which the receiver bobbled that could not be altered because replay was not an option. The better decision would have been to mark forward progression where the receiver's feet came down with possession, which is the rule, assuming the ball was secured since it certainly was when the play ended on the ground and allow the Colts, who had a TO remaining to challenge the spot as they would have since that would have been the best use of a TO they get back if they prevail.

But that would be too much to ask in a league where the officials can't even keep track of TO's. and what is challengable...

Sorry, my post was in response to a comment about Brady not making an All-Pro play. Brady completed a pass beyond the 1st down line. That is the fact. Everything beyond that point had nothing to do with Brady's abilities.

Can we please forget the previous game and steer the discussion back to Mayo and the OP???

Mayo - you da man! Please show us and the media what you and your unit can do.

But please...don't go too far like shutting down the Jets. That will add rocket fuel to the raging debate that BB should have put you guys back on the field last Sunday. ;)

PLZZ. Stop saying BB trusted the defense to stop them on the 30 because what Manning had just done to the D and the scoreboard suggested otherwise.

the D realy has no reason to be pissed they could not stop payton so BB went for it on 4th to end the game

and mayo was right for telling teddy your not the leader of this D any more i am how can you tell me what i am felling ?

now as far as him saying we will go out and show how we play they may go out and stop the jets and there #1 running game cold but running the football dose not put up a lot of point's and the jets are one of the worst passing team's in the NFL so the pats will hold them under 20

and when they play the saints they will give up 35 again they are not a top 5 defense that will get it done every week they will have some good game's and some bad game's

they are a young defense full of new face's that are still learning how to win and should not and will not get mad at any call that BB one of the greatest coach's in NFL history make's

half the starter's on this D have not even played in a super bowl and if teddy dont understand that then he is living in the past

It really comes down to this. BB had a chance to win the game while the Colts BEST player was on the sideline and the Pats BEST player on the field.

Brady didn't execute like an all pro player, and the result happened.

Punting would have swaped the advantage. Let's put the Colts Best player on the field, and take ours off...

Sorry, but I wouldn't put this on Brady. He delivered a catchable ball. Faulk catches it cleanly and we win the game. I'm not putting this on Faulk, though. He had a defensive player all over him and still came down with the ball. The Patriots just got an unfortunale spot.

So let me get this straight, BB had no confidence in PATS stopping Colts for 70 yds But he took a shot with Clutchest player of all time knowing if it fails those 70 yds are now 28. I'm no mathematical genius but If thats not saying well then I have faith in my team stopping them for 28 yds I dunno what then.

Which only highlights why the team has moved on and week 10 is done.

It seems that people forget that a certain 2007 week 17 game ended in a loss for a team that was up by 12-13 points. A few weeks later, the rematch ended a lil better for them.

The Pats were clearly the dominant team and have infinately more upside than Indy.

Why anyone is distraught is beyond me and will have zero bearing if we go into Indy in January. (This assumes Indy can last long enough to host us in January)

If there is a rematch, I think the way this game ended will work to the Pats' advantage. The Colts may wish they had lost the first game, and not provided major motivation for the Pats in a rematch, if it gets that far.

I won't lie - I fear PLAYING Indy more than any other opponent in the AFC playoff picture. Here's my secret hope : someone (SD, Cincy) takes them down before the AFCCG and NE gets to play another opponent. Even playing in Pittsburg seems less scary right now. Don't even know wy - Indy's D looked weak for 3 quarters... I just always have that feeling Manning's gonna win it (ever since 06 - before it was quite the opposite).

Mayo: ”To be honest, I have the ultimate respect for Tedy and everything he’s done for this organization. But he’s not in this locker room at this point in time,” Mayo said. ”He doesn’t know the feelings that this defense or that this team has. We still have our confidence. We still have our swagger. We’re going to go out Sunday and show the media, I guess.”

Gotta say, Mayo is one big swinging richard

Remember one thing..........
Reche Caldwell isn't going to drop a ball right in his hands to seal the win..
He is no longer the WR1 of this team, he'd be fighting for the #3 spot now....

That still hurts....

I'm not afraid of Indy. I hope O'Brien and Pees learned their lessons from this game. If they did, we should be able to take out Indy in a rematch.

Actually, Brady did. They got the necessary yardage for the first down. It was an incorrect mark and anyone who has seen all of the available angles knows this. Not whining, just a fact. Blown call, game over, move on.

I don't fear Indy. I think Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are much better teams overall and are more serious contenders.

Right now my best guess at how the AFC will end up is:

1. Indy
2/3. Cincinnati/NE.
4. San Diego (with Orton's injury I think Denver fades fast)
5. Pittsburgh
6. One of Denver, Baltimore or Houston

I think we end up either the #2 or #3 seed. If #2 we get a bye. If #3 we host Denver/Baltimore/Houston, and I think win handily. Either way I think we end up playing Cincinnati, at home or on the road. That would be a very good game the way Cincy is playing right now, but I think our playoff experience and TB give us an edge.

I think the winner of Pittsburgh/San Diego (I give the edge to Pittsburgh) is a bad matchup for Indy. Indy will have their work cut out to beat either team, if they play well. Pittsburgh's defense should be able to get enough pressure on Manning to allow Polamalu to make some plays. I think Pittsburgh will be able to run the ball at will on Indy. Even if Indy wins, I think they get physically beat up.

Personally, I think the Pats are itching for another chance at Indy.

Mayo's comments got the attention of Pro Football Weekly, which had this to say:

"Prior to the Indianapolis game, without the question even being finished, rookie S Patrick Chung told PFW that Jerod Mayo was becoming the leader of the Patriots' defense. But really he started the process last season, when Chung still was at Oregon, and Mayo has been needed no more than at this time. Many observers have said that head coach Bill Belichick's fourth-down decision at Indy was a slap in the face of his defense, but Mayo said the defense has turned that notion on its head. "We looked at it as a challenge," he said. "People say that it was a lack of confidence in us, but we looked at it as a challenge and we looked at it as Coach having enough confidence in us to give us a short field. Unfortunately, we were unable to step up to the challenge and get the job done." Team insiders expect Mayo to lead the charge down the stretch and play his best football of the season, all while carrying this young defense on his back from a leadership standpoint, as well."

ProFootballWeekly.com - Expect Patriots' 'disrespected' defense to follow Mayo

Time to step up, Mayo, and carry this D to the next level.
