How the Colts Game Could Be the POSITIVE Turning Point for the Pats

Thanx, so we're probably looking at division record if that senario plays out.

1. Head-to-Head
2. Division Record
3. Common Games
4. Conference Record
5. Strength of Victory

If we beat the Saints, The Saints and Vikings could both go 15-1 and the tiebreaker would be #5. So it teaches you running up the score is BS!

That looks like the tie breakers for the division. Isn't conference record # 2 when you're talking about playoff seeding?

Does this look correct?

Head-to-head, if applicable.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in conference games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss.

Yes, sorry on my bad, it was the division tiebreakers. The Saints-Vikings scenario is still the same. Wouldn't it be funny? "Im here with Jim Nantz, the Vikings must win by 35 points or more for home field advantage"

Are Vikings Playing Bucs or Browns anytime soon? lol

I'm always a bit more attuned to the threads that I start.....I feel that the "care and watering" of a thread is the responsibility of the OP. Which is a way of saying that while I know there's always give and take within any discussion, I can't help but noting that 90% of the posts here have nothing to do with the initial point I made. Now, the posts here are actually pretty good--usually I just see a lot of pissing contests between jerks so I don't even point it out. But you guys are making some decent comments, they just don't really seem to belong here, you know?

Let me throw something out there, because I'm living in NY and don't get the day-to-day I'd like. Who are the likely leaders to step up for the Pats on D? I feel like Wilfork is that kinda guy, but I don't really know how vocal/aggressive he is. (Also, it would help if he got signed to a new deal.) Who's most likely to step up?

Mayo is the onfield leader

Seau is the vocal leader, on the sidelines and in the locker room. His pep talk is legendary.

Yeah, the thing about Seau is....I had this thought when they signed him again, with the comments in the media about how he'd be good clubhouse presence--I think real leaders have to produce. If you're just a rah-rah guy, but don't get it done on the field, then you've either got to be a coach, or something else.

I think every play is used as a teaching tool ... even the successful plays and games. I don't think we need to turn - I think we played a great game and we simply ran out of energized bodies.

+1.

Personally I've been hoping the same thing. Take last year when the Pats absolutely kicked the crap out of the AZ Cardinals. If you'd have told me after that game the Cards would be inches from winning the Super Bowl two months later, I'd have said you need to lay off the crack pipe. But that's what happened. :)

I agree, and Seau won't be the leader on the field. But Seau's biggest contribution this season will be teaching the kids. In a way, that could be seen as a different form of leadership, but not the way you mean in the OP.

I'd guess Mayo since he's in charge of making the defensive calls. Wilfork is a great player, but if he was going to become the leader, I think he would have done so already after Sey left. I think Mayo learned quite a bit from Teddy, even though Bru was fading last year. The young guys need to learn from someone, and I think Seau will definitely help Mayo to become that leader.

Strength of victory doesn't mean margin of victory. It means the records of the teams you have beaten, so the amount you win by does not factor into that tiebreaker.

Hopefully this game leaves a scar on the team so the next time a do or die situation comes up this season, they remember how this felt.

no Seau is a special case. He is an intense, natural born leader that players always want to follow. Wasn't he voted team captain the first year he was brought in here out of retirement? And he totally buys into BB which is huge for a team's morale when things get a bit dicey. I don't think he needs to play much to have an impact on this team.

I am still bothered by the smacking the defense took in the 4th quarter though. Forget the 4th and 2 call, this defense had absolutely no answer for Manning for the 2 drives before that last one. Were they tired. Sure. But the Manning no-huddle offense doesn't allow for many substitutions so they are going to have to figure that one out. no excuses. That's what was said before the game.

and the offense? Get one lousy first down to close out the game.

Sorry, not feeling the optimism of this thread yet. I think the Saints game will be very telling because we'll see if the defense can play a complete game against an elite offense. I do think we kick the Jets arses though.

You're probably right that guys still listen to Seau, but I do think it's the guys who are the top players can lead most effectively.

I'm not overly optimistic about this, by the way--I think this adversity simply creates the climate for new leaders to emerge. Whether or not they do is another story.
