Sorry if its been posted but Dion and Coach Mariucci both agree that Faulk made the first down and BAD mark by the Officials!! On NFL Network where they start talking about the 4th down and 2. Thats exactly what i thought when Faulk made the catch.

That's really fantastic news.

Re: D.SANDERS and Mariucci say Faulk got the first down !!

Would, coulda, shoulda. Maybe he did, but without timeouts we weren't in the position to challenge the referees on it. That alone should have forced BB to call for a punt.

I think he got it too. He bobbled the ball initially (which is why the officials didn't just give him forward progress), but he got control at the 30 before he was pushed back.

But the Pats used up all of their timeouts before the 2 minute warning, and couldn't challenge. That's inexcusable.

If the play had happened 8 seconds later it would have been automatically reviewed. But it was just outside the 2 minute warning, and we couldn't challenge.

I wonder how NFL apologist Mike Pereira will defend the call this week.

The thing that kills me about bad calls, like the Cinci game week1 this season.

There is no overturning, there is no going back, there is no nothing, but an empty feeling that makes you distain the NFL a little more every time you see it happen.

No matter the bad call, no matter the visual evidence after the game, the game is a Loss, and the NFL moves on.

He'll say it was quick on the field and a judgement call, and most likely make FAulks bobble seem worse than it was, like Michaels did on the broadcast. Bottom line, wasting all of our timeouts was stupid.

I don't think there would haev been enough evidence to overturn it anyways. I would have liked to see the perspective from the other side of the field.

The inside judge came in to spot it at the 31... how those two were 2 yards apart is beyond me... I would say it's tough to be 6 feet different on opinion. Especially when the inside judge has a better view of when he has control of the ball.

Re: D.SANDERS and Mariucci say Faulk got the first down !!

While we're on bad calls - can anyone tell me what exactly Darius Butler did to earn a P.I. call on the 2nd to last Colts scoring drive? Looked like he was playing the ball perfectly and had position, but the WR kind of crashed into him. Perhaps it was good gamesmanship on the Colt's part, but I thought the call was amateur hour. 30+ yard P.I. with 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter... nice job.

There's a youtube video where someone goes through a DVR of the play. Honestly, it's not conclusive. There's no video camera positioned right at the 30, it's at an angle so you can't get an accurate read on it. All I can tell you is, it was within one foot of the 30 (on either side). Anything more than that and I'd be guessing.

Yeah, he breathed on the receiver so the refs had to throw the flag or else Manning and Polian would have thrown a ****fit.

Re: D.SANDERS and Mariucci say Faulk got the first down !!

If players execute properly one bad call will not change a game. There's plenty more you can point to about that game than just one spot by the officials.

If they knew they were going to go for it on 4th and 2 they should have done a QB sneak on 3rd and 2 or a draw - something more than two straight short yardage passes in the face of a really good rush.

I posted this in a different thread, where the youtube link is, but if you watch it, and stop the video just as Faulk's foot comes down on the turf, when he clearly had possession, his foot is squarely on the thirty yd line.

Who cares where his foot is??? The placement of the ball is what's important - to me it looked like an equal chance that it was on the wrong side of the 30 when he came into possession.

Ok, but you will need the camera angle from the other side to verify his possession.

Re: D.SANDERS and Mariucci say Faulk got the first down !!

It would have been really nice if NBC let us see a few more views of the play instead of letting Collingsworth proclaim that Faulk bobbled the ball all the way to the ground. There's a great video at Barstool Sports that shows the ball was firmly in Faulk's possession before he was pushed back. The refs made the call that they did, although the apparent initial spot of the ball was not where the ball was finally spotted, and we have to live with that. But at least in my mind I'm satisfied that it was a good play that was well executed.

In this regard, it really is on BB.

One would think he would have the insight that he couldn't challenge the forthcoming play if anything happened. That should have been extra incentive to punt.

Re: D.SANDERS and Mariucci say Faulk got the first down !!

I was watchin the NFL network after the game... They showed the clip about 5 times... I tip my hat off to Dion, he spoke out and said it was a 1st down... side judge had no view of the ball and they show a clip of another side judge runnin down the field gettin ready to mark it 1st and 10...

Wait, are you saying you punt because of the 1% chance you may need the challenge on the next play?
