Bruschi: Belichick dissed his defense

Re: Bruschi:Belichick dissed his defense

Exactly what I was saying after this one ended.

However, he dissed them for good reason. They couldn't stop the Colts at all in the fourth and Tom Brady getting two yards is an easier gamble (well, normally) than trying to stop Manning with two minutes to go.

Well the defense gets to make a statement this week then especially next week against N.O. I think our best chance to win was to convert the 4th and 2, if the defense doesn't like it, too bad I guess.

Agreed. If the defense was all about stopping the Colts, they had ample opportunity to do so on their TD drive that made it a 6 point game.

Re: Bruschi:Belichick dissed his defense

The problem with what Tedy says is the defense was given a chance to stop Peyton, and couldn't.

it's way too risky to go for it on 4th down on your own 30 when you are facing the colts and them having 3 timeouts. BB pulled this same nonsense in the super bowl going for it on 4th and 18 at midfield.

Re: Bruschi:Belichick dissed his defense

I still would have punted, but I dont see going for it a disrespect to the D. It is just a respect for Manning and the Colts O, maybe a little too much respect.

i mean say we punt and get it to their 20. anything could happen in that time span - a strip sack, a forced fumble, etc. Manning is great but he doesn't lead his team to a TD on EVERY down.

Re: Bruschi:Belichick dissed his defense

BB wasn't dissing his D, they were worn out. I thought going for it wa the best option a that point.

Re: Bruschi:Belichick dissed his defense

This is a total red herring that the media will beat to death (How bout that mixed metaphor?). As Coach Herm said, you play to win the game. BB did what he thought gave him the best chance to that. The players are professionals, they have to be able to see that and get over their bruised egos. Maybe they can start by figuring out how to beat their blocks.

Yeah, I just really wish I could see how the defense would have responded if we punted. They came up big at the end vs Baltimore and could have came up big last night. We'll never know.

We could've given them the ball in Chicago and they would've scored.

How can you say that though? Did they score every time they had the ball? No, not even close. I think people/BB are giving way too much respect to Manning and the Colts. Of course they are good, but to assume that they would go 60-70 yards in 2 minutes with 1 TO and score is a little too much respect in my book.

They didn't have 3 time outs at that point... They had used 2 and were down to their last... NE just happened to be out of timeouts and couldn't challenge the spot... And an official review was out because it was on the wrong side of the 2minute warning.

At least BB is an equal opportunity disser. Bethea yapped that the play call was a "slap in the face" to the Colts' defense as well.

That's the problem -- we saw this situation, and the D did NOT come up big vs. Baltimore: Mark Clayton dropped a pass.

Agreed......... It's not like the D's play in the 4th inspired a lot of confidence. Yeah, ticky tacky PI, they played well most of the game, blaa, blaa, blaa.... I got that..... Still the defense that just got through getting torched 20 seconds earlier to the tune of 70 yards was not one many people would have looked at and say "They got this".

Sad........

Re: Bruschi:Belichick dissed his defense

Gotta disagree, knowing that it was far from certain that it would result in a first down BB still had to be thinking that the defense had a probably a 50/50 chance of having to go back on the field. If the conversion works then the game is over, if not then the defense only has to prevent a TD which should have been well within their capabilities.

We won that game didnt we?, so the D got the job done. Even if Clayton catches that pass, that doesnt mean the Ravens win that game.
