All the talk shows up here, TV, this board…it’s all about Belichick’s call to go on 4th & 1.

Admittedly, this call MAY have cost us the game. Certainly, our odds were better at stopping the Colts from 70 yards away than 30 yards away.

But Maroney’s goal line fumble cost us the game, let there be no doubt about it.

Even if he doesn’t score (which he should have, except for the fact that the kid just does not know how to generate a hard forward push or at the very least bounce it outside and angle for the pylon)...

But if he does not score and just hangs onto the forking ball, we at least get 3 points and the 4th & 1 becomes a non-event because it is a two score game for Indy at that point with under 2 minutes to play.

Maroney is a bust. We all know it. He gives us fleeting moments of hope, but his fumble and his 31 yards on 13 carries as the FEATURE BACK of the offense in a game of GIGANTIC proportions just does not cut it. His four years in Foxboro DO NOT CUT IT!

Up to this point, for those four years, Maroney has basically just NOT helped us, but last night he HURT us and he potentially cost us home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

With all three of our losses in the conference, and two against teams we’ll be drawing straws against for playoff spots (Denver & Indy), last night’s loss was H-U-G-E!

And Maroney gets the goat horns.

Does anyone have Larry Johnson’s agent’s number handy?

Yeah, because there were no other plays where the Patriots could have had 7 but came away with zero.

If you're going to blame Maroney for the fumble, you should blame Brady just as much for his pick in the end zone.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

This is a bad day for Pats fans and the last thing this Board needs is another embarrassing Maroney thread.

The answer is because it was his only fumble of the season and because he's done everything asked of him when given the ball with a chance to get into a rhythm. Do you think ANYONE in the Pats locker room is blaming Maroney for the loss?

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

His fumble DID NOT cost us teh game. there were 10 other things that cost the game before Maroney's fumble. What about Brady's bonehead interception?

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

No one is talking about Maroney because everyone expects him to lay an egg out there. He is maybe the teams fourth best RB and will be rooming with Chad Jackson soon enough.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

Did nbc ever show a replay of that fumble?

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

We actually got those 7 points back, since we held Indy and Welker returned the punt 69 yards to the Indy 7. Not defending the fumble, but I don't think it ended up costing us points in the long run.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

the fumble hurt but it didnt decide the game. at that point we had a good enough size lead to be able to close out the game.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

See Mankins was supposed to fall on it for the TD. Its Maroney's signature play from the last time he played Indy.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

I actually thought Maroney had a decent game besides the fumble. He definitely ran harder than earlier in the season. Yes, the fumble was a huge play, but you cant really blame the loss on him. If Morris or Taylor were active I think one of the 2 gets the ball in that situation and probably doesnt fumble.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

The fumble isn't being talked about because we got 7pt on the next drive after the Welker run back... So we got those 7 points anyways (especially since the colts went 3-out (IIRC) after that fumble. (and there isn't much you can do when someone puts their hat on the ball as you're jumping)

What killed us was the phantom PI call for 31 yards that marched Indy down the field for them, and a botched 4th and 2 call in which we got a bad spot that we couldn't challenge.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

Welker's punt return put the Pat's right back into the same position they were in before Maroney's fumble. They scored a couple plays later. The fumble did not cost the Pats the game.

And yes they did show a replay.

And yes they did show a replay.

Yup they showed it after the commercial and it was clear as day.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

Thought it was pretty much negated as Indy got no points, and the subsequent return by Welker made it even... and we subsequently scored...

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

It's a good point, Maroney's fumble was huge.

So was the INT in the red zone the previous series.

The Pats choked all around. We are the 03-04 Colts now.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

People aren't talking about Maroney's fumble because his fumble didn't cost us the game. The only thing Maroney's fumble prevented was an official blowout of the Colts at home. We had a 17 point lead in the 4th and blew it. Our defense completely collapsed after playing amazing once again and BB made some of the worst calls of his career.

It was a gamble in the truest sense of the word: if it worked, it would have been hailed as risky, but brilliant. It didn't, and it's a risky move that backfired and cost them the game.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

I just don't see how you can say that Maroneys fumble cost us the game. We had two good drives to start the second half and came away with no points due to two turnovers in the Colts end zone. Its really hard to come away with a win against a quality opponent with this kind of sloppy ball handling. Brady threw a brutal pick into double coverage on a pass that never should have been thrown. Did he cost us the game? Obviously no.
To lose in the fashion that we did, a series of events have to occur that cumulatively create the ending. This game was lost for many reasons, not any one specific play or call.

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

I'd blame it on brady before Maroney actually. But the whole team was at fault

Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?

I thought the 2 turnovers in the red zone were really important in terms of deciding the outcome.

Also, Indy's punter sucks - he clearly outkicks their ability to cover the guy downfield... A few times, Welker had 15 yards of space open in front of him to start running when he caught the ball.
