could someone explain what the PI call was that was the bad call from the ref that many people have?

when was it? where? who committed it and what happened?

It was the PI call on Darius Butler covering Austin collie......It was a total BS call.....They were running down the middle of the field and Butler was in front of collie, The ball was a little underthrown and butler jumped up and a little back to reach up for the ball......collie jumped as well and collie's feet extended when he jumped and the pass was incomplete.......The combination of Butler jumping up and back a little and collie jumping up and his feet kicking out caused the collision and of course the pats get called for PI which gave the colts a first down at the 13 yard line......it was with around 3 min left in the game I believe......

Bulter was facing the ball too, Apparently, he did not have the right to try to make a play on the ball.

25 yards for something Austin instigated. Gotta love the refs in Indy:confused:

To me, it looked like a basketball play. Collie was sprinting down the field on a seam, and Butler was following him about 1 yard behind. The ball was underthrown, and Collie slowed up, gave Butler a small hit with his shoulder to draw contact, then attempted to catch the ball. Collie, in my opinion, clearly initiated contact. It looked almost like offensive PI to me.

I'll have to see the replay, but I didn't like that call.

The rules committe needs to review that particular dynamic. The contact came as Butler was looking at the ball w/ the receiver adjusting/coming back to the ball in-flight. Both players were going for the ball. If Butler doesnt turn around, I can understand the PI call....

Fully agree ! But what else did we expect when we play Indy  How long does this guy Polian going to stay in Competition committee. Isn't there a term limit on the post ?

On the other hand, two red zone turnovers which would have been an easy 14 points is what I cannot digest

We beat ourselves

The officiating all game was crap. Brady was hit several times below the knees, and no calls were made.

Typical late game heroics from the zebras. What's crazy is the refs seem to have their hands in more and more games at crucial situations. Curiously, in some of Indy's biggest games dating back to the 2006 AFCCG, they always go in favor of Indy.

It was a BS call because (1) Butler had position on Collie, (2) Butler had turned and was facing the ball, and (3) Collie came back towards Butler and the ball and initiated the contact with Butler. The DB has as much right as the receiver to the ball, and the receiver can't go through the DB attempting to get to the ball.

I didn't mind the earlier PI call on Bodden when he clearly grabbed Garcon's jersey - that's a fair call. But to give up a 31 yard penalty in a critical game situation on something that bogus is just not right.

I actually think the Butler was playing the ball the whole way. He seemed to have his head facing the ball and Manning as soon as the cut was made by the WR.

Another thing that about that call that pissed me off was the call by Collingsworth on it. He all but admitted that Collie turned into Butler becuase the ball was underthrown a bit. And described it as a "great play" by Collie. Ah, isnt that offensive PI? Or at least not defensive PI? But I guess its to much for Collingsworth to call it the correct way.

Well in the 2005 playoffs when the Colts played the Steelers the refs did everything they could to try to help Indy win.

That call was complete BS. And I won't be surprised when everybody decides to ignore it.

Here's my solution, if they refuse to make PI reviewable:

In order to assess a call of PI, the ref MUST explicitly state what happened that resulted in the call when he announces it. No more, "pass interference, defense." It would have to be "pass interference, defense, grabbing the jersey of player X" or "pass interference, defense, arm bar to the chest," etc.

I'd love to hear exactly what PI they saw on that particular play, and I'd love  to hear Mike Pereira try and spin that one.

Hell, at this point, I expect Butler to receive an official "oopsie" letter just like Hobbs got.

you got it...... remember that BS PI call then Indy later fumbled/turnover and justice was served and Pitt won.....

and not to mention the overrule of the fumble

It's like Collinsworth's was trying to say that Butler was being interfered with. On a side note Collinsworth reminds me of Balky from the show Perfect Strangers. I just find they look alike.

Exactly my point. In the 2007 playoffs against SD, the refs did the same. Late in the 2nd half they flagged a Charger's Db for PI and they guy wasn't even within 3 feet of Wayne.
This kind of stuff happens way too often for my taste, and I'm really starting to question WTF is going on.

The call was terrible. It was a clear case of Collie basically interfering with himself and the guys on NBC even called it as such.

Butler has every right to that ball and his eyes were locked on it the whole way.

As for those spouting this "refs in Indy" crap. C'mon, can people get over that already? It's a ridiculous assertion. There are 7 other teams represented on the Competition Committee but for some reason Bill Polian pulls the strings? Even though he's not even one of the Chairs?

Bad calls happen, for and against every team. The difference is you only REMEMBER the ones that go against you (or for your worst enemy). It's like poker. You always remember when someone pulls a lucky card to beat you but you never remember when a lucky card comes in your own favour.

Let's have some perspective. Bad call? Definitely. Intentionally bad call made by the refs to aid Indy in winning? No.

Let's be logical, if the refs WERE going to help Indy intentionally, wouldn't they have tried to do it in a more even way spread out over the game, rather than in a spectacular 4th quarter come back that would draw attention?

It was a botched call. It happens in every game, in every sport. Officials are human beings and they make mistakes. Conspiracy theories just make people sound dumb.

Normally I'd agree with you but think back to the 2005 divisional round with Polamalu's INT that should've never been overturned. Then the 2006 AFCC where Hobbs gets flagged for a phantom PI then Reche Caldwell gets tackled in the end zone with no call. This seems to keep happening in Indy over and over and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Please point out the BS calls that went against Indy in these games they don't occur.

I just want someone to explain to me why Bill Polian, only 1 of 8 on the committee, gets special treatment over the other 7 teams represented.

Why aren't all 8 teams getting special treatment from the refs? Especially the 2 teams represented by the Chairs of the committee?

It just doesn't make any sense. It's just an easy way out that people love to take.

Polian is not king of the officials. He's one member, of an 8 man committee, of which he is not a Chair.
