I know I'm going to get absolutely blasted by some on here. And, I know being on the field it's tough to not believe in you and your mates on the defensive side of the ball. But, at that point everyone here knew the colts would score, and that they would try and leave as little time left. When addai breaks that run on the second play, you have to let him score. We would have had about 1:15 left to drive down the field to win the game with a field goal. Yes, it's easy to say this now. But, in all honesty as he broke off that run I honestly did scream "LET HIM SCORE, LET HIM SCORE." Our best chance at that point was to conserve time and give our offense a chance to win the game back.

A player can't make that call on his own. BB has to make the call prior to the play. If he didn't think the D could stop them, he should've made this call.

I said after the tackle that they should let him score so they can at least get the ball back with enough time to get a FG try. I felt they were going to score anyways.

I didnt hear Meriweathers name once, he disappeared.

Exactly. Similar to how the jags told all their players to kneel, and I had my running back kneel at the one twice in the last few yrs of fantasy football. First Westbrook, then Jones-Drew. Funny thing was I played against the same guy both times. But, yeah back to the point, the players should have been told if someone broke it and had somewhat of a clear path to just let him go. Of course then the defense would really feel like BB didn't believe in them at all (which of course he didn't, but wouldn't really want them to know this so that they lose confidence etc).

No way would I have condoned letting him score. We have beaten this team on a goal line stance in the past. You have to go down fighting. I thought the Jets were being weak when they tried to do it against the Jags. Belichick would have really been showing no faith in his defense then.Live bythe sword, die by the sword.

The only time to let a team in is if the other team already has the lead or can run the clock out and win on a FG. Not when you are up 6.

I was saying the same thing. They go up by 1 with 1:15 left. All we would need would be to get near the 30. It's about the odds. Are the odds of them scoring on a 1st and goal (with 4 downs) at the 1 less than the odds of us being able to drive 50 yards in 1:15 and kick a field goal? I don't think so.

You must not remember 2003 when we were first and goal and got smoked by your D!!!

Those days are way in the past.

This is a different D, and a very young one. However, im thinking they could pretty damn good in time for the playoffs :D

I hope you don't get blasted, because you're right! The Patriots would have had 1:15 to simply get it into FG range for the win.

Yeah, but this was different, because THREE starting defensive linemen were out last night. With Banta-Cain going out early in the game, the Pats were down Banta-Cain, Jarvis Green, and Ty Warren on defense.

The Pats were not stopping Indy on first and goal from the 2, so giving Brady and Co., 1:15 to get into FG range, instead of 13 seconds, would have been the move to make.

I agree with you. That's what I was thinking. BB is going to have a long week.

I agree, they should have let them score. It's definitely unconventional to let a team score the go-ahead TD. But as our coach proved a minute before, he's not a conventional coach.

It would have been consistent with the 4th down call, which was about giving the offense the chance to win the game. And also probaby partly driven by fear of Manning scoring. Might as well maximize the time left for your offense. Of course hindsight is 20/20.

Hell, for that matter, since BB was conceedeing Indy TD by going for it........ Just sit down and let then score on the first pass. Then they would have 2:00to get in FG range. Very doable.

Your right but a player on his own can't make that call. When I saw that play I thought to myself "We should have let them score" but BB would have to make that call.

I like your thinking. Sort of a six point version of the Safety in Denver. Only problem is that only the Coach can make that call.

FWIW, I thought the same thing since I knew for sure that we weren't going to stop Indy from scoring 6 at that point in the game. Our DL was cooked and spent and being dominated by the Indy OL.

I thought the exact same thing last night.

There was an NFL HC a few years ago who used that tatic and won the game.
