Slants, slants, and more slants. Gotta love the Indy variation. Simple squad for simple people.

For all the marvel over what an offensive-genius Peyton is (and it pains me to use the word genius in the same sentence as that goober), it truly is amazing how simple their offense seems.

3 wide + Dallas Clark + Addai in the backfield + an absurd amount of slants.

The other thing the Colts do well is abuse that fine line re: the rule of a receiver essentially setting a pick on another. Seriously, the Colts should just put Dennis Rodman out there at receiver and have him set up some screens for Clark and Wayne, b/c that's basically what they do now. They run receivers right into the opposing DB on a play-to-play basis. But what's legal, what's not? It's extremely ambiguous, so why not take advantage of it?

The bummer is that that makes playing man pretty tough. If you're playing the Colts wideouts up tight, you're going to find yourself unwittingly running right into another Colt wideout pretty quick. If you play zone, they'll just run those slants and take everything underneath.

I know very little about defensive coverages - let me rephrase that, I know pretty much nothing about defensive coverages. Jays52 I'm relying on you to help me out with this question - to a simple football fan like myself, it seems like one's best bet against the Colts would be to play man underneath, but flood the intermediate part of the field with LBs & safety to protect the CBs who get run off wideouts, or just to protect from all those slants?

Those slants they ran was just what they did against Houston in the first half because Texans chose to play soft 4-3 zone. For example in the 2 min drill, Colts went strictly outs to kill the clock.

I did not see the 2nd half so cannot remark.

Don't forget Manning is a lot like Brady, he adjusts to what coverage he sees out there. He is a check QB like Brady, not a call or kill QB.

Watching one single game will most def. give you an honest read on this colts team. Good job guys.

Oh right, I forgot to mention this is the only Colts game I've seen in my life!!!:bricks:

Come on, man, if you're going to come to our board, come with better crap than that. We all see the Colts at least a half a dozen times a year. They are one of the most televised teams in our league as well as our arch-rivals. We're breaking down the specifics on one game as an EXAMPLE.

One of the first lines in this thread was "Freeney wont be able to do what he's going to..... "

He has like a 78 game sack streak. Why would anyone on that o-line be able to stop him Sunday? That's pure homerism.

Fine, then say that - don't rip the entire premise of the thread, which was to watch one game closely, and apply it to what we know about the Colts, which seems pretty fair to me considering the resources we have available.

As for Freeney, am I going to guarantee he goes without a sack? Hell, no, he probably gets one. But to say the Pats would do a better job on him isn't homerism. Tom Brady is one of the least sacked QBs in the league this year and in 2007 a) he's great in the pocket b) he has some good wideouts c) he has a good pass blocking offensive line. It's a strength (Freeney) against a strength (Patriots passing offense), there's no clear winner.

He'll get a sack in the game most likely. Will he dominate the game and single handedly stop us from throwing downfield ? Probably not.

Agree with what you said and the poster above you. I think Mathis is better (and cheaper) anyways.

Let's face it. You don't need to watch a single minute of footage to know how to beat the Colts. You ground Manning and force the Colts to run. You mount long substaining drives on offense.

Knowing how to beat them and beating them are two different things. But the Colts are really not all that hard to figure out on an Xs and Os basis. They aren't a team that changes things up from week to week like the Pats.

78 game sack streak? What glue are you sniffing? I know they make plenty of glue out there, from all those Colts who've gone by the wayside after those postseason meltdowns.

You had your chance last year when Brady was absent, but you blew it.

Hyperbole (pronounced /hʌɪˈpə:rbəli/[1], from ancient Greek "ὑπερβολή", meaning excess or exaggeration) is a figure of speech in which statements are exaggerated. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is not meant to be taken literally.

Had our chance at what? Another ring? I guess so. But you've also had your shot WITH Brady and blew it. Since your last post-season win against the Colts, you've managed to lose a thousand point second half lead in the title game (HYPERBOLE!) and choke against the Giants.

Hyperbole means exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally, such as Manning's success in the post-season, where he is in fact, 7-8.

Hey, I'll take 3 out of 5 superbowls and 14-3 in the postseason any day over 1 out of 1 in the superbowl and a LOSING 7-8 postseason record.

Book it. Colts are in Patriots head for sure. Won 4 out of the last 5... the days of Manning pissing himself against NE are so over. I worry more about the Texans then I do the Pats now..

What's the point? You'll disappear after Sunday night, like so many of the trolls who come here.

We only lost by 3 last year, with a QB who hadn't started since high school. What's the deal with that? You guys barely got away with that one.

Look at my join date. Look at yours. I have 5 years on you. Ive been through every one of the Colts/Pats games on this forum. I always come back to discuss win, lose, or tie.

Here's the deal, my hyperbolic homie. There is a difference between a pass rusher and an athlete. Freeny is an exceptional athlete with a rare first step, and a pretty good rip on his outside stuff. It is well known how good Freeny is driving upfield, so the less athletic tackles will often have to take an exaggerated kickslide in order to counter this. The tackles will be overreached, an enable Freeny to use his spin as an inside counter to the overcommit from the tackle. That's all he's got. He has moves reliant upon the athletic disparity between himself and most NFL tackles. He doesn't have a full compliment of moves, and he certainly is not a crafty rusher. He is an athlete, not a pass rusher.

There are few tackles in the NFL who have both the footwork and the wingspan to keep up with Freeny's outside stuff. When there is a tackle that can keep up with his outside speed, it negates his ability to spin to the inside. Sebastian Vollmer is such a player. He is a 6'8 version of Ryan Clady, and likely has better acceleration than Clady. From a one on one matchup perspective, Vollmer is a nightmare for a guy like Freeny. What Vollmer lacks is a full compliment of counter moves to those of a veteran pass rusher. Due to Freeny's reliance upon his athleticism, Vollmer is going to be a tough battle.

That ain't homerism, that's simple logic.

If I could "like" a post like on facebook, I would. Good effort.

Then you're lost your mind on many counts.

Not seeing the point on that? Are you suggesting seniority = intelligence?

Yet at the same time you try to push Freeney having a 78 game sack streak on us.. that stat is so ridiculous.

The NFL record for consecutive games with sacks is 10.
