Get your study on.

share your thoughts please. I always enjoy reading them.

Already got a few.

1) Freeny won't be able to do what he is doing right now against Vollmer. He's coming upfield hard and ripping. Obviously setting up the spin, as the T is now starting to take a deeper step and is getting outside his base.

2) Unimpressed with the passing game. Texans showing A to setup check B, defending check B, Colts playing into it.

I flipped back and forth between that game and the Pats' game on Sunday (I watched the Colts/Texans game during commericials). Wait to the second half. That is when the Texans exploited the Colts' defense.

Clark featured prominately off of run fakes. Slip screen, end around, releasing in back of the backers. Now we're in Wayne on the slant mode around 9:25 in the 1st.

Colts 1st Q Scoring Drive #1:

Run fakes to Clark 4-4 passing. Run fakes = Clark.
Wayne slants.
Addai on swings when the coverage was rolled to Clark.
Addai on micro middle screen for 6.

Seeing quite a few single coverages on Clark. That won't be happening this Sunday.

Texans are not as disciplined as we are on D, so that makes me feel better.

trips left 5:03 turns into screen.

That D really is undisciplined. How many offsides is that so far?

EDIT: just about a flag for every snap on this drive.

When is the Patriots / Dolphins game on?

Slants, slants, and more slants. Gotta love the Indy variation. Simple squad for simple people.

Colts have the most basic offense system in the NFL, that perhaps is what makes it so hard to cope with.

Still going with the slant.

Pats/Dolphins NFL Replay tomorrow at 8:00PM.

I have to step out for a bit, but so far it does not seem like they are ganging up on Clark. Leaving him in single coverage, and most importantly, not even hitting him at the LOS. I hope we will see McGowan line up across from him and hit him hard the moment he crosses the LOS, and just hound him until the upper safeties close in.

End of first half, Texans lining up for a long FG. It's blocked, but the Colts had called one of those last-second timeouts. This time the TO backfired, the second FG attempt was good. Might make Caldwell think harder about trying it again.

Colts defense bit on the play action a couple of times for a big gain on a deep post (Bracket bit and couldn't get back in time), and at the Colt's 2 for a TD to Moats.

I did not see this. Can you give more inputs?

More analysis anyone??

Well, in the third quarter, the Colts had the ball for one three and out series and the Texans had it for two drives for 14 points (they scored on the second play of the fourth). So it really was the third quarter where the picked apart the Indy defense. It was a series of long methodical drives with a lot of short passing and running. Both drives took 12 plays and over 6 minutes a piece.

That is how you beat the Colts. Short methoical drives with runs and short passes.

The thing that stood out the most to me in the 2nd half was the play-action pass. The Texans did a good job of establishing the run and had a couple of successful play-action passes because the defense bit. The Colts looked like they were on their heels after the first successful play-action pass and they started giving some big cushions to receivers. It looked like they did a good job of play calling, I saw some a couple deep posts, screens, slants, and outs/deep outs that worked well. I believe they were in mostly 2/3 wide running sets with the occasional shotgun formation. One of the big plays was a 45 yard pass to Jacoby Jones. It was out of the shotgun, he got behind the CB and SS and Schaub made a good throw.

I forgot about the playaction. With an inexperienced secondary, that will be key.

Watching the replay: Texans choice of defense is puzzling, at least for the first half. I am not going to stay up to watch the 2nd half so I dn't know what adjustments they made for the 2nd half.

But they appeared to play a mix of 4-3 zone with a soft cover 2. They did not even bother to line up opposite Clark, and hit him in the mouth right at the LOS. You could see him come off and not get picked up until he was well in the flat and out of the wheel (he did mostly slants, a few drags).

Note to BB: Colts D do not do well on pulls that turned into misdirections. They bit hard on those. Not having Sanders hurts them here because he usually shoots the backside gaps on those and kills the play. Once Texans got that going, it allowed them to get into rhythm by going to the short game on outs, drags, and posts. Went up the field but lost on fumble out of zone = touchback.

2 min drill, Manning shotgun 2x2 WRs. Texans in man 4-3 but hitting hard and it is starting to change the complexion of the game. But Manning keeps doing outs to kill the clock and marches up the field. Max protect turns to fake sweep, FS Pollard reads the play all the way through (may have been in spy), laterals for interception.

Texans in no huddle 2x2 puts Colts on their heels. Time runs out. FG.

If the Colts play like they did in the game I am watching, there is no way they win against us. Not having Sanders really hurts them in the run game, so it is imperative that our RB's have a monster game.

I expect them to revamp their game plan. I see us in dime the entire game so I think we see trips L/R from them to counter and not so many 2x2.

But for God's sake, hit Clark, hit that son of a ***** every time he comes off the LOS. Whack him.
