. . . back in 2007.

McDaniels says timing was bad for him to interview with Ravens -- baltimoresun.com

Two years ago, Josh McDaniels got word that the Ravens were interested in interviewing him for their vacant coaching job. Brian Billick had just been fired, at least in part because his teams consistently struggled on offense, and McDaniels, even though he was just 31 years old, had wrapped up a record-setting regular season as the New England Patriots' offensive coordinator.

If McDaniels would have gone to Baltimore last year, it would be unlikely that he would have got the paper that Belichick gave him with "things to do to be a successful head coach". I am paraphrasing here but McDaniels has acknowledged that the information from BB has helped him tremendously. I wonder if Josh would have been as successful without the insight he gained sticking that extra year.

I agree. There's more to being a Head Coach than just coaching. Look at those who were great offensive/defensive coordinators but turned out terrible as Head coaches.

Anyway, I hope the next Job McD interviews for is the Head Coach of the Patriots when he's 40.

Both Baltimore and Atlanta wanted to interview McDaniels in 2007, but he declined interviews with both teams.

He would not have been as successful. Both he and BB realized that he needed another postgrad year to study for the HC title. So, he applied himself at the tutelage of the Jedi Master and graduated with highest honors. The obvious case of premature ejaculation into HC status is Eric the Rat.

Anyone read further down that article(other Ravens stuff)?

Quote- Derrick Mason, referring to Joe Flacco:
"You can't teach toughness," Mason said. "If a guy isn't tough, he can't play in this league, especially at the quarterback position. Guys are diving at your legs or going after your head, unless you're Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, and then no one can get close to you. But you have guys flying around you trying to put you on the turf, and Joe has the ability to stand in the pocket, and he's done it game in and game out. He takes the big hit and still gets back up to go to the next play. That's something you can't teach."

I used to have mad respect for Mason, as he was a guy I thought was kinda like Troy Brown- Talented, but not supremely- hard worker, etc....

Now he sounds like just a whiner.

You mean the Ravens right? If I'm not listening to Ray Lewis talk about what a Lion he is, I'm hearing Suggs make a new excuse for the recent big loss the Ravens had. Do they ever not complain?

Well, at least he included Manning and not just Brady, which is rare. I won't expound further because a) we already know he's spouting nonsense and b) I can't bring myself to defend a Manning, even if it's only by association! :snob: :D
