Week 8 TV Maps are up for those that are interested.

NFL TV Distribution Maps

The Jets-Dolphins will be the early game on CBS; announcers are Jim Nantz and Phil Simms. Aside from being on in Jets and Dolphins home territories, it will be shown throughout New England, as well as in the Carolinas, Atlanta, Tampa and Tallahassee.

Most everyone on the east coast gets the Giants vs Philly, but it looks like in Boston it is still a tossup between that game and the 49ers-Colts game; they haven't decided which Manning to show in the other early game yet.

Then in the late game it's the Brett Favre show. Surprised they didn't move those two other games to early kickoffs in order to get 100% coverage.

No Sunday night football this week either because of baseball.
Monday night it's the Falcons against the Saints, that should be a good one.

If you're in the San Diego television market, yes.

The NFL doesn't allow for another game to be on tv at the same time a local team is playing a home game. They want to make sure people that have already spent money for tickets to that game attend in person and spend more money, rather than stay at home and watch a better game on tv. Plus if those folks are still determined to watch that other game, it forces them to support the Sunday Ticket deal either directly (subscribing to it at home), or indirectly (patronizing a sports bar that purchased the Sunday Ticket.)

As for Philly/NYG, it looks like they're thinking Peyton and the 49ers-Colts will draw better across much of the country, not just in SoCal.

I actually looked at my TiVo guide online, and it shows there being two 1pm (i.e. late) games for LA-- SD/Oak crapfest and the Min/GB on FOX. Then there is a 10am game but it isn't titled yet. My guess is it's the SF/Indy game though per that map.

i'm with you....but they (nfl) has done this pretty much this decade i believe - maybe further back. It's almost a respect thing for lack of a better term. If the NFL had a game, the world series would get crushed in the ratings.

Got an email awhile back of the 15 most watched sporting events since the last super bowl (43) and i think 12 of the 15 were nfl games, 2 nba games and the NCAA hoops title game. Not one baseball game in that mix. This e-mail was after the pats/titans game.

Nothing to do with Sunday Ticket. The rules have been in place for at least 30 years. It has to do with supporting the team in getting butts in seats. Hardly fair to the owners if the NFL gives them competition. So games must be shown if they are sold out and cannot be shown (nor any other game) if they have not.

Plus games look better on TV when stadium isn't empty (like a Toronto baseball game).

It's a business decision and a smart one.

I have to disagree simply because the rule seems to be aimed specifically at those who watch on TV. Although the rational is to coax more people to see the game live, I believe that is a secondary motive.

In my opinion 30 years ago the selling point was to give that network and their advertisers a captive audience with those games - especially for those advertising spots that went to the local station and the ads they sold. Nowadays I truly believe the reason they continue to exercise this policy is primarily because of Sunday Ticket. If somebody is not interested in a specific game, taking away an alternative choice is not going to make them go watch that other game.
