With all that Congress has on their plate, is their time best served trying to take away the league's antitrust exemption because of a small number of football players who have multiple concussions. It is something that the league should spend more effort to protect the players, but is it really something the U.S. Government should be involved in? If concussions are a big issue in football, why are they wasting time at the pro level protecting multimillionaires and not worry about the tens of thousands of school kids who play football every year.
I really don't get why the government needs to use the antitrust exemption to get involved in professional sports. I had a problem with the Congress getting involved in steriod issue, but at least I can see how professional athletes taking steriods could set a bad example for kids who dream of being sports stars. But how does dealing with the multiple concussion issue help the general public in any way. It only affects a small minority of professional football players. Why waste so much time and effort to protect a few hundred people when there are far bigger issues that Congress seems to never tackle.
