Kerry Byrne: Taking The Pulse Of The Pats At The Bye

Re: Kerry Byrne:Taking The Pulse Of The Pats At The Bye

It's pretty hard to argue that the hardest part of the Pats schedule is behind them when the combined record of thier November opponents is something like 18-7.

A 2-2 record over that time will have them lined up nicely for the playoffs. A 3-1 or better will have them in the driver's seat with a possible bye. Should be an interesting month.

A good look ahead at the schedule otherwise.

Re: Kerry Byrne:Taking The Pulse Of The Pats At The Bye

Nice breakdown. But if the Pats lose to both the Colts and Saints I'll be pretty disappointed.

Another thing is that Denver's schedule is an absolute horror show. I could definitely see 13-3 getting the Pats a bye over them.

Is it a stretch to see the Broncos lose four of these games:
@ Baltimore
Pitts
San Diego
NYG
@Indy
@Philly

Yeah I tend to agree with you. I suppose a part of that statement comes from Brady just back from surgery as opposed to Brady a half a season back from surgery but November is a brutal month.

Re: Kerry Byrne:Taking The Pulse Of The Pats At The Bye

I think he is close to the mark. 12-4 is great but it won't get as very far. A trip to Indy or Denver scares me.

If we either beat Indy or NO, my feelings will change.

If Denver wins in Baltimore and beats Pit, they deserve everything they get and I hope they kick the Colts ass.

I don't agree that 7-4 has the team nicely lined up for the playoffs. To qualify for that status, we need to be in line for one of the two first round byes. 7-4 probably leads to 11-5 given the rest of the schedule, and that's just limping in as AFC East champs by a game or two.

A 12 and 4 record would be sweet, but I still fear Pittsburgh more than Indy or Denver.

What's your basis for that? They usually have a hard time against us.

Couldnt agree more. Last time I checked they were still a pretty good team with a tough defense.

I'd rather have to play a playoff game in Heinz Field or Lucas Oil then have to go to Invesco again. I'm sure the entire team agrees.

Why would the entire team be in agreement? All three stadiums are real tough places to play with IMO Pitt still the best of the bunch.

I'm still not sold on Denver as a league power, but they certainly know the Pats in and out. Is that what you are driving at , Kontra?

Along these lines, I think it's clear that Shanahan was one of the more overrated coaches in the league. Playing in Denver is such a huge advantage--teams simply can't acclimate themselves that quickly to the atmosphere there. That's why Denver got clobbered in so many Super Bowls....teams weren't really all that good, but you could pencil them in for a bunch of wins at home, a bye, and then bam.

I agree we don't have a good history at Denver - but I think we are due for a win there. We lost a very winnable game and I think the team would not allow us to lose there again if the opportunity presented itself. But that why I'm a fan and not an expert...:D

Are you serious with this statement? From 1986 to 1998 you think altitiude was the number one reason Denver went to 5 SBs and won 2 and averaged 11 wins a year? C'mon...

I used to think the Pats were due for a win there until after the 2006 playoff game. They had just come off a thumping they put on Jax and looked all primed up for a run at their third straight title and every wheel on the wagon feel off in that one game. I would suggest a witch doctor accompany the team if they have to go there for the playoffs.:eek:

Re: Kerry Byrne:Taking The Pulse Of The Pats At The Bye

I'd prefer to have no playoff games on the road. Don't want to play in Pittsburgh or Denver and certainly not Indianapolis. It's only week 7--we should aim high.

I think playing in Denver is an ENORMOUS advantage for the team that plays there, that is unmatched in the league. Obviously the teams need talent/coaching, etc., as evidenced by the lackluster Broncos teams of the past few years. But it's a tremendous edge for them, yes.

Thanks for the link. I was laughing when I read the write-up on the Jets game. Right-on! :D

I dunna know, aluminum. If memory serves, in 87, they beat CLE in CLE in "The Drive" game and in 97 they won 2 playoff road games en route to their 1st SB....Teams that suck on the road don't do that.
