Braylon Edwards charged with assault | ProFootballTalk.com

Newspaper Link: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/10/braylon_edwards_charged_with_a.html

The charges stem from an accusation that Edwards punched a friend of Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James. The incident took place shortly before Edwards was traded to the Jets from the Cleveland Browns.

The Plain Dealer reports that Edwards faces a sentence of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if he's convicted.

Now why I'm posting this is I'm wondering if anyone else is noticing the trend of crappy stuff that is happening to the Jets?

I dunno if you can qualify this as bad luck, since they traded for him after this well-publicized incident. Just like htey traded for a 350 pound DT with a history of knee problems. They get bargains in these trades because the guys that they trade for have enormous red flags, so you can't really call it bad luck when the red flags are actually legitimate problems.

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

Like the poster said above, it's not bad luck, it's bad management. They knew the red flag that was there when they picked him up. They took the risk and now will have to wait it out and see what happens.

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

They did the same with Favre.

Everyone knows Favre shoots from the hip.

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

What the Jesters have to worry about is not the 6 months in jail...that won't happen on a misdemeanor. They will have to worry about a short suspension from the NFL.

Its not like they gave up the house to get him. Way too early to cast this as a win/lose for the Jesters.....we can only hope....

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

Edwards beat up on a much smaller man. If he had remained with

the Browns, he may have gotten a suspension. Now that he is with

Roger Goodell's favorite team, he will rule "boys will be boys".

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

It's also a precursor to a large civil suit I'm betting.

I think you mis-spelled "lip" :D

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

It's called karma....and she's here to collect. F the Jets!

On Saturday, I got a couple of tickets to the Jets game thru Ticket

Exchange so I could personally give them the finger.

That means you have another one left to give for me if you would be so kind.

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

I can just imagine Roger Goodell coming down swiftly on the Jets for this one!

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

According to Smackosaurus at the blog.cleveland.com site, Braylon had to leave Cleveland in a hurry:rofl:

The real reason he was traded is because their is a good chance if he stayed in Cleveland he would have gotten really hurt or dead.
Think I'm kidding.
Did anybody REALLY listen to that LeBron interview when he called Edwards "childish"?

No

Lebron said "the people that have to handle it will handle it".

That is code for "someone is about to get retribution" in hoodspeak and LeBron wouldn't even have to be involved because it would be "subjects wiling to please the King" doing the heavy lifting via stealth.

Happens everyday in Gangs so don't think I'm stupid and I won't call you naive. Edwards may have gone out after another home game, and a gang of guys could have jumped him and he would have been out for the year if he wasn't carted away in a body bag.

Nobody speaks of such things, but when the highest profile athlete in Cleveland says what he said... Edwards had to go to for his safety.
This is the back story nobody wants to report and as long as Edwards stays out of town, he'll be fine.

Once LeBron said "the right people will take care of it"... Edwards ticket out of town was punched.
I welcome your thoughts.
Those are the facts.

That was just a threat. LeBron would still be incriminated if anything happened to Edwards. That said, LeBron IS the king of Cleveland. If anybody could get away with murder in that city, he is probably the guy.

Re: OT: Bad to Worse for the Jets - Braylon charged with assault.

The Jets traded for Edwards two days after the league announced they were going to investigate Edwards for this incident. This is the incident that prompted the Browns to trade him away. The Jets are not shocked by this revelation at all.

Yup. If anything, it just shows you how incredibly desperate they were for a wide receiver.

I honestly don't want to see him at all this season so hopefully it escalates.

No, what it really shows is just how degenerate of an organization they really are.
