Ian's Daily Blog - After beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-7 in London on Sunday, New England now heads into their bye week at 5-2 as they get set for the stretch run of their season. So far through seven games, while all hasn’t exactly been perfect, fans have plenty of reason to be optimistic.* Their two losses have been [...]

Thats what I don't understand about fans complaining about Brady,If I am not mistaken the Pats are 2nd in the league in yards passing per game and Brady has been the better passer in the Pats games in 5 of the 7 games played so far.

If anyone wants to complain about anything, complain about the rushing attack which is mediocre without Taylor and Morris.

Agreed. If you told me after 7 games that TB has a 15/4 TD/INT ratio and has thrown 2k yrds, comp almost 66% of his throws and has a 99 qb rating, I'd take it.

My eyes tell me he is gettiing more and more comfortable- thats what counts.

Those who disagree with statistics will argue strength (or lack thereof) of schedule. Of course they will not have considered Indy's...;)

But we arent talking about rational thought out analysis, we are talking about knee-jerk complaining and complaining about a team that is 5-2 and in first place.
Essentially, many fans expect Brady to be perfect and overcome anything that ever happens. So he becomes the scapegoat when he is imperfect.
Its not right, but its understandable.

Very interesting stats!

2007 only occurs once in a lifetime. This 2009 team has overcome some key injuries and so far seems to be improving as time goes on. On paper, they may be the best and deepest team in football. Unfortunately it has been hard for everyone to get healthy at the same time, and that really has been the challenge of this season...

Nobody is complaining about the last 2 games. We were complaining during the first 3. (although he did make a couple terrible throws yesterday. Tate should have had a TD, but that ball was way underthrown, and the int to moss was a terrible throw)

He looks much better now than he did a couple weeks ago. Do you disagree?

but what if you were also told that nearly 700 yards and 9 tds of his stats came against two of the worst teams in the NFL? I do agree that he is getting back to his pre-injury grove and that the offense will get better, just looking at both sides of it.

They were just talking about this on Sirius Radio and the negative talk about Brady and the Sirius personalities wonder why there is so much bad publicity about Brady from fans and media and they say he is still one of the best and don't worry about him and have no idea why he is getting some dissing when he has led teams in the past 2 weeks with scores of 94-7

I think November will define Brady of 2009 - 2 home games we must win in the division to stay in control and 2 away games against the best teams in the NFL ,Indy and N.O. - Any type of positive performance over the next month should shut up the critics for good.

You only play your schedule. It's not like Brady has always been a big numbers guy and we played crap teams at least once or twice every year yet he's on pace to have his second best season, statistically speaking.

Go check out where the bulk of Peyton and Drew's stats have come from...

Yes he does - If there is any carbon copy out there comparing the MVP Peyton Manning's resurgence of 2008 after a few bad games it is the Brady of 2009

As for those who were complaining about the Brady of the first 3 games I want them to go out and tear thier ACL and MCL in a scimmage with your friends and see how they feel about playing the same scrimmage less than a year later.

I believe Brady is human and bleeds red like all of us here right? - A messed up knee does not heal overnight nor does the return of confidence which takes a month of play...at least.

Thats fine which I why I added my comment about what I see. He seems to be moving around the pocket and delivering the ball on time better.

I forget where I read it, but someone said that Brady still isn't doing a good job of ditributing the ball to different receivers- which in theory, shows that he is going through his progressions, buying time, etc. so I looked at each game & the # of diffrent receivers who have made catches...

Game- # of receivers who have made catches
1- 6
2- 7
3- 8
4- 9
5- 6
6- 9
7- 6

Deduction- Overall, based on the #s, he has made progress since Week 1, w/
Denver and TB being noticable blips. Personally, I think TB was amped up for the game yesterday and may have tried to do too much. Also, having Edelman out and Tate & Aiken in there may have made him a bit timid in looking their way....

I agree. Patriots are so stinking good, have great players and very well coached. Patriots are in the top 5 in the NFL and probably the top 2 or 3 of the AFC. The only thing is the 2 losses, but those were close games only lost by 7 points and 3 points. The real proof will be week 10 and week 12 in my opinion.

Pats' opponents record 20-25 (7 games) opp. winning percent .444
INDY opponent record 11-26 opp. winning percent .297
N'awlins opponents 18-20 opp. winning percent .473

Yeah, the next 5 weeks (starting week 9) will define this team, not just Brady.

Phins - Home
Colts -Away
Jets - Home
Saints - Away
Phins - Away

That's ROUGH

And if you take away Denver, its 14-25. If you take away TEN and TB, its 20 - 13. Whats the point?

You can only beat who you play, and Indy has done that. Its too early to be harping about SOS when one team can account for 25+% of the wins/losses against.

Its not right, but its understandable.

The same way that ESPN mocked Peyton Manning for 'only' passing for 235 yards, 3 tds, and 66.7% completion rate. Although they were doing it tongue in cheek. They called the performance 'pedestrian'. I'm sure Brady's numbers appear 'pedestrian', they're only top 5 QB numbers.

The majority of the disappointment we've seen so far generally comes from the people that were expecting this season to be somewhere on par to 2007 a few weeks before the season started. I thought we were going to be good offensively, but we weren't going to touch two seasons ago. I'm happy with those numbers. Based on what we've seen so far, I'd say that Brady throws somewhere between 28-30 TD's this season and 8-9 INT's. Pretty solid season.

And I still think our season ends in Miami with a Lombardi Trophy being hoisted over the team's collective heads.

I have not been complaining about this but all the games minus the JETS the "Pass Rush" of the other opponent(s) has been far less executed. Therefore

Brady with time = TROUBLE for the other team.

Love BRADY........ Is our O-Line overachieving or we have not seen a pass rush since the JETS "SUPERBOWL". hahaha

Winning the SB so early is incredible.
